MBABANE – Miss Swaziland Chaperone Thandeka Matse’s hard work has paid off as she has retained the licence to host the pageant again this year.

The decision to reinstate her was taken during a meeting which was held at the Swaziland National Council of Arts and Culture (SNCAC) offices on Friday.
Confirming the news was the Swaziland Beauty Pageants Association Interim Committee Chairman Tony Dlamini.

Matse successfully hosted the pageant last year and the winner, who is the reigning queen, is Samukelisiwe Magagula.
Under a company called Dunamis Investment, Matse has worked hard in finding sponsors for some of Magagula’s projects including the Nakekela Umliba campaign whose aim is to assist underprivileged children.

The SBPA Chairman also revealed that the new Miss Teen Director is Mellissa Dupont who is also well versed with beauty pageants.
“On Friday we managed to take a decision on the directors of local pageants. We looked at different things including the evaluation of previous directors which is why Matse has bounced back,” Dlamini said.

Announce

He highlighted that the directors for other pageants will be announced at a later stage as there was a lot to be considered before taking a decision.
“For the Miss Deaf beauty pageant, we cannot take a decision until we meet with the mother body of the disabled which is FODSWA. They have already invited us to a meeting on April 22 where we will discuss some of the current issues regarding the pageant,” he said.
Other pageants whose directors are still to be announced include Miss Cultural Heritage and Mr Swaziland.

Called for comment, Matse said she was excited at the fact that her hard work has been recognised by the SNCAC and the SBPA.
“I am still waiting for a response as I did fill in the evaluation form to show my interest in doing the pageant again. I am happy with the news and I am hoping that this year things will be better and I will get support from the corporate world to improve the pageant,” Matse said.

She highlighted that when she took the licence last year it was difficult for her as most people no longer took the pageant seriously.
“It was my duty to try and convince everyone that the pageant was still big. I am happy that finally I am getting positive responses from members of the public saying that we are doing a good job,” she said.
