ESWATINI CREATIVES FOR DURBAN CULTURAL EXCHANGE
MBABANE – Local creatives are set to travel to Durban tomorrow, courtesy of the ‘Durban Cultural Exchange’ set to be hosted on April 7, at Anderson Sports Ground Pinetown in South Africa.
The cultural exchange is made possible by Shelembe Aphiwe Productions, the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC), Toyota South Africa, and the Republic of South Africa Arts and Culture Department. Local musicians such as Mshikishi, M Nation and Samu Once Again will form part of the musicians that will be representing the country during the cultural exchange.
This was revealed by Zakhele ‘Ugly Gee’ Mabuza, who is the lead mediator between Shelembe Productions and the Eswatini National Film and Television Association (ENFTA). “The Shelembe Aphiwe Productions and ENFTA signed a memorandum of understanding between the two creative entities, which is bearing fruit as they have been invited to Pinetown, Durban, for a cultural exchange program where there will be an arts round table, performances, social games and creative-space business opportunities between the two entities. The MoU was signed in June 2023.
Worth noting is that not only film practitioners will be attending; we have also invited musicians, models and designers, as all are components of the film and television industry,” Mabuza said. When asked how many creatives will be attending in all, he shared that over twenty will be travelling to Durban. “Over 22 local creatives are attending. Besides the mentioned activities, there is a music video to be shot in Durban with artists from both countries. Locally, the song features M Nation, Samu Once Again, Mshikishi, Scuveve, and newcomer Tandzie. The song is a collaborative effort that has been recorded in both countries, and it is going to be performed for the first time in Pinetown,” he said.
He further applauded ENCAC for supporting the creatives and revealed when they would be leaving the kingdom. “ENFTVA would like to appreciate the support from ENCAC for facilitating harmony between the two entities and thus opening trade opportunities. The team leaves on April 6 and returns on April 8. Notably, this will be the second cultural exchange program between the two entities since the signing of the MoU, as last year ENFTVA attended the 44th Durban International Film Festival through Shelembe Aphiwe Productions,” Mabuza said.
