MBABANE – Gospel music should be used to minister to masses, as it is one of the successful genres locally, according to EswatiniBank MD.

EswatiniBank Managing Director (MP) Nozizwe Mulela was speaking at the sponsorship announcement for MTN iPraise last week Wednesday, which was held at Summerfield. According to Mulela, Gospel music has emerged with countless success stories in the country, seen by the many Gospel stars who have emerged, some being artists who have gone on to do great exploits across the borders. “Take for example, Nothando Dlamini, Nduduzo Matse, Shongwe neKhuphuka, these artists are testament of the vast talent we have in the country and surely the love emaSwati have for Gospel music.

Resources

“It then falls upon those with resources to invest in our local talent so that our music industry can expand and be firmly established,” Mulela said. “Music is an indispensable part of society, and every culture has its own rhythm. According to research, over 80 per cent of the population in Eswatini is of the Christian faith and that accounts for almost everyone we know. In this country, our connection to the kingdom of God is one that can be traced back to past kings such as King Somhlolo, who had a divine visitation in a dream. In this dream the King was advised to take Umculo which is the Bible over indilinga that being money. With this story I want to simply highlight the journey we have had as emaSwati with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are fortunate to have a number of different denominations that we can ascribe to and in all our churches, with praise and worship being at the centre of it all. This could be music from the Zionist Church, the Anglican Church, the Apostolic Church, Catholic Church, the ministries and so many other God-fearing churches,” added Mulela. She went on to express the power and importance of music. “According to the Bible verse 1 Samuel 16:23, ‘When the spirit from God came upon Saul, David would take his harp and play it’.

Relation

“Then relief would come to Saul. He would feel better and the evil spirit would leave him.’’ The MD went on to say from the passage of the scripture, we gather the power that music has in relation to our wellbeing. “There is so much healing that needs to take place within us as individuals, as families, communities and most importantly as a country. I would like to encourage the use of Gospel music among others, to minister to the masses,” Mulela said.  She further said; “Our core mandate as EswatiniBank is to improve the lives of emaSwati. Consequently, we not only play a vital role in offering banking services and promoting the development of Eswatini through financial solutions. As part of our Corporate Social Investment (CSI) Programme we also seek to pour into initiatives that build the country morally and economically,” added the managing director.
