TRIBUTE TO OUR MOTHERS - SARNILO, ZULUBOY

MBABANE – Sarnilo collaborates with Zuluboy.

Just in time for Mother’s Day on Sunday, local songstress Sarnilo has collaborated with South African musician Zuluboy in her new single titled ‘Sharon’. Born Ntando Dlamini, popularly known by her stage name Sarnilo, she is a songwriter, rapper and Poet who has made a name for herself in the music scene through her captivating lyrics and versatility. She is signed under Antidote Music. She describes her music as soul capturing, fun, experimental and emotive. Born of a Malawian mother and a liSwati father, she uniquely incorporates both siSwati and Chichewa in her music to enhance her singing and song writing skills. Her new single ‘Sharon’ comes after the release of her song ‘Okondana’ which features local musician Sbu Manzini.

Her song titled Okondana made her a household name and the talk of the local industry as this song was selected by Apple Music as their song of the week during the last week of February. The song ‘Sharon’ will be released this Friday, Sarnilo shared with this publication that it came as an inspiration from her mother. “This song was inspired by my mother, the unconditional love, gratitude and respect that I have for her.  She’s been my support system and rock my whole life. Using my gift to dedicate a song to her was really the least I could do, she deserves so much more. This was something that Zuluboy resonated with as well and we basically wrote a tribute to our mothers and mothers across the world,” Sarnilo all said.  
She shared with this publication that collaborating with Zuluboy was not planned as it happened spontaneously and she further encouraged fans to listen to the song.

“Meeting Zuluboy was a coincidence, being in the right place at the right time because it wasn’t planned. We instantly hit it off, and this gem was the outcome. I have immense respect for Zuluboy as a musician and a person. I learnt so much from him during our recording session. This song  is a piece of my heart that I’d love to share with anyone and everyone who holds their mom or a mother figure in the highest of regards. It’s a Hip Hop song that has one of the greatest lyricists in it. If I were you, I’d want to hear it,” shared Sarnilo. “The song is about love, gratitude and respect. It’s an Ode to all the mothers and mother figures in our lives. We wouldn’t exist without them, literally. We love and respect them,” added Sarnilo.

Antidote Music co-founder and co-director Mmeli Hlanze nodded Zuluboy as the right musician for the collaboration. “Zuluboy is one of the most accomplished, respected Poets and rappers in South African music history. Some might even go as far as calling him a living legend and for us at Antidote Music; we are beyond thrilled and honoured that we managed to get him for a song with one of our stars, Sarnilo. The most amazing part about the song is what it represents, a love that we all have and that is a love for our mothers or anyone that has been a mother figure in our lives. It was only fitting that we release the song on Mother’s Day weekend as it will be dropping this Friday May 12,” Hlanze said.
