MBABANE - The Mother of all Gospel Shows was held on Saturday at Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre in Manzini.

Several local Gospel artists including South African artists namely; Canaan Nyathi, Thina Zungu, SbuNoah and many more were booked to perform including Phathwakahle. However, the local Gospel songstress ended up not performing at the show because certain obligations were not met according to her management team. When reached for comment Nduduzo Matse, the brains behind the Mother of All Gospel Shows said, Phathwakahle did not perform for two reasons. “Phathwakahle has not yet communicated with me about this issue; I just saw it on Facebook. I think there are two things that led her to not performing during the event. Firstly she wanted to perform at a time which was already allocated for another artist, so the stage managers couldn’t allow that to happen. She wanted to perform early, before 10pm, yet we were slated to do the production that time. Secondly, she wanted money before her performance of which I think she wouldn’t have got the money since she ended up not performing,” Matse said.

“Phathwakahle didn’t even tell me when she was leaving. I just heard through Facebook that she wasn’t treated the right way. For this I will say that we are sorry, siyacolisa kakhulu kutsi asimphatsanga kahle Phathwakahle. As the Mother of All Gospel Shows we were ready to see her perform but the slot that she wanted to use was already allocated to another artist, which is mostly the upcoming artists. We had communicated that the early hours of the show would be dedicated to upcoming artists only, so we can push them and promote them. That was the argument nothing much, we asked that solid artists be patient as they were slotted at a later time,” added Matse.

He further said that they find it difficult to pay an artist while people had not yet come to the venue as they depended on ticket sales. “We are sorry that we did not meet the obligations of them performing early. We highly depend on ticket sales and the support of the public, so if there are a few people who have entered the venue it would be difficult to pay artists prior. I paid everything from my pocket to host the show and to do everything. I do not even have even one single sponsor pumping in money. So if there will be an artist who will demand money before the performance, I usually have difficulty in paying them. I don’t even hide that fact, I even tell the artist and if they do not agree I don’t hold grudges against them.   We will continue to do the Mother of All Gospel Shows with people who are ready to support the vision until it becomes sustainable. We are very sorry for inconveniencing Phathwakahle and her fans, but the truth of the matter it’s just what I have said,” Matse said.
