MBABANE - Following last November’s unveiling of GloRilla as the new #UpNow artist honouree; Audiomack has announced Uncle Waffles as the next artist to be given the distinction.

Audiomack is an on-demand music streaming and audio discovery platform that allows artists and creators to upload limitless music and podcasts for listeners through its mobile apps and website. Born Lungelihle Zwane, Uncle Waffles will represent the platform’s emerging artist’s programme in a variety of musical genres, including Hip Hop, RnB and Amapiano, on a global scale. In the Audiomack interview the star said; “Growing up, Eswatini didn’t really have a creative community of any sorts, nothing whatsoever.” Uncle Waffles, who is on the line-up for next month’s Coachella Festival in the United States of  America (USA), shared about being celebrated by the Audiomack community.

“Everything that involves creatives came as the bare minimum. So, to be in this position and to have Audiomack highlight me and get recognised is amazing. It feels very different, and I feel much loved. I want to be remembered as the person who did the impossible in every aspect.” As part of the larger #UpNow experience, fans expect the Audiomack-exclusive release of the track ‘Khumbula,’ as well as Uncle Waffles’ boosted presence across the platform. Over the weekend, Uncle Waffles performed as part of the music platform’s first-ever Audiomack House event in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The announcement marks the beginning of a long journey for Uncle Waffles, who released her debut EP on Audiomack in March 2022. In the past year, she accumulated more than 2.8 million global streams on the platform, with more than 70 000 monthly listeners. Most recently, Audiomack sponsored Uncle Waffle’s US tour in November and early December 2022.
The star received seven nods at this year’s Amapiano Awards, including Amapiano Artist of the Year, Best Amapiano Female Artist and Best Amapiano Newcomer. Her rapid rise reached new heights when it was announced that she earned a coveted slot to perform at Coachella in April 2023.
