MANZINI – South African renowned musicians Nkosazana Daughter and Sizwe Alakine gave thrilling performances at the Mosaswa Festival Christmas edition held at Millennium Park in Manzini.

Regardless of the wet and windy weather on Saturday afternoon, the festival gave fun lovers an experience of a lifetime. This event was presented by Platinum Concepts and SwaziBoy Entertainment. The festival was also an initiative to spread the word in fighting Malaria, courtesy of the partnership that the country has with South Africa  (SA) and Mozambique in fighting the disease. The festival kicked off at 11:30am. During the event, fun lovers were constantly reminded and motivated to test frequently for Malaria as well as be on high alert about major symptoms of the deadly disease. It was a well decorated event complemented with good sound quality that could be heard from a distance. When entering the venue one could spot the neatly aligned stalls, which fun lovers and families visited. During the day, local acts such as DJ Crooks, Tilungu, Danny OG, Zulu D, Sbu The Drum DJ, Psycholution, Kena, Chaboy, Lyrikal Busta, Young Zesh, Msimisi, Uncle Karly serenaded fun lovers with live energetic performances, while awaiting the headliners of the event.

However, due to the heavy rain, which was accompanied by aggressive wind, Sands was denied a chance to perform. The unfavourable weather halted the event for over an hour as wind blew aggressively, exposing some of the music instruments to raindrops on stage. The sound crew ran helter-skelter trying to remove drum kits and keyboards from the stage and covered some of the instruments with a sail.

unplanned

After the unplanned break, local DJ Tilungu took over the decks and raised the bar high with his captivating set, which made fans forget about the weather which had disturbed them. When he played an Amapiano track titled ‘Mama’ by SA musician Aymos, it revived the crowd and brought back fun as fun lovers and families were seen dancing near the stalls and also at the VIP area. SA musician Sizwe Alakine took to the stage at 9:35pm. His performance was in two folds, for the first fold he paid tribute to the late SA musicians Ricky Rick, DJ Sumbody, Mpura and Killer Kau by performing their songs. For the second fold he performed Amapiano, the genre which the artist is now venturing into after rebranding from ‘Reason’ where he was a Hip Hop artist. His performance was one for the books, captivating and amusing. He jumped around the stage while also freestyling to show his versatile talent. He performed for 35 minutes, after his performance he encouraged fun lovers and families to frequently test for Malaria.
