MBABANE - Swazi Boy Entertainment has proved that it is dedicated to unearthing and promoting local arts and small businesses.

The stable hosted what has now become one of the biggest awards showpieces in the country, the Eswatini Social Media Awards, where fashion designer Thulani Lobhambo scooped the ‘Best fashion Designer Couture’.
He took home the grand prize, which was a flat screen TV, as the most voted for nominee.

The awards were held at the Happy Valley Hotel, the event saw artists, companies and creatives being awarded for their hard work throughout the year. The first-of-its-kind event saw attendees dressed to the nines as per the theme ‘Fire and Ice’, ‘Tfungisani’. The concept not only embraces the creatives who appear on social media platforms, but goes on to recognise business entities and young entrepreneurs who are making a mark in various fields including agriculture and culinary.

This was evident in the Hangout Spot of the Year category where renowned hangout spot and ‘new kid on the block’ took the award home. Males and females who are in the business of offering decor services were also recognised on the night. The pioneer of the whole concept, Swazi Boy’s Mthunzi ‘Shadow’ Zwane said the awards are the epitome of the creative arts of Eswatini. According to Zwane, this is the space where excellence of the arts on social media is celebrated both for seasoned and young creatives. He said the hive of activity on the socials is insane.
Skills
In his speech Zwane said: “The reels on Instagram, TikTok with different acting skills on display, skits on YouTube, the selling of products on Twitter and the advertising of different commodities on all the platforms especially on Facebook is a marvel to watch. The presentation of these different skills by Eswatini’s creatives on the socials is second to none in the world,” said Zwane.
According to Zwane, the impact social media had in the arts industry, was evident through local South Africa-based female spinner Uncle Waffles, who wouldn’t have been a global icon if social media was not important.
Shinely Greens gave an emotional speech after receiving the Most popular Mainstream Artist’.  She said,“I’d like to thank me, I’d like to thank me because I voted for myself,” said the artist. She further mentioned that she had been in the industry for 10 years with fire collaborations under her belt like featuring Big Zulu but locally she had never been celebrated.
