MBABANE – The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) has received interest from companies that wish to utilise the commercial space during their magazine show on SuperSport.

The PLE entered into an agreement with Media Mora to capture and show highlights of the MTN Premier League games at South Africa’s pay-per-view channel, SuperSport, which premiered on October 28, 2022. The deal between the two entities was officially launched on the same date at Esibayeni Lodge in an event which was graced by the presence of Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga as well as PLE Chairman Mark Carmichael, among other dignitaries.

Carmichael was quoted on the day saying that the deal was a business opportunity not only for Eswatini football but every liSwati to showcase their talents and products across the continent and beyond. The show plays for 30 minutes, with 26 minutes reserved for football while the four minutes specifically for the commercials. It was brought to the light of PLE, by Media Mora, that once SuperSports was impressed by the viewership, the PLE would stand a chance to clinch a E1.6 billion deal, through broadcast rights.

Support

PLE Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kenneth Makhanya when quizzed on whether they had received interests from companies, he responded to the affirmative. “Yes, one has even provided logistics support,” the former South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns manager said. The PLE/SuperSport show is on its first episode and airs on SuperSports GOtv Select channel 32, SuperSport Variety 4 Africa Channel 229 and SuperSport Football Channel 205. The PLE, apart from this partnership, also launched  a highlights show with Eswatini Television worth E512 000 for an eight-month duration,  which was signed and launched in a press conference also held at Sigwaca House, early this year. PLE Chairman Mark Carmichael and then Eswatini TV Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kenneth Maziya signed on behalf of their organisations, marking the renewal of a ‘marriage’ which had dissolved five years ago following a pronounced E2 million broadcast deal.
