MBABANE – The African Tourism Board has aided Eswatini to become the destination of choice for the upcoming culture exchange carnival scheduled for tomorrow at the Mavuso Trade Centre.

Under the theme ‘Experience rich fusion in our cultural heritage’, Eswatini will be the play host for the gathering and sharing of food, culture and crafts among some African countries. This culture exchange was approved and gazetted by government this year, but the event was unfortunately postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Inspiring

This will be an annual carnival that will move to Ghana and Kenya in the months of October and November. Cultural exchange also adds value to lives by inspiring new forms of artistic expression. Visitors create new networks and learn how to talk and interact with people from other cultures. In addition, cultural exchange programmes help individuals to adjust and learn about new environments. The Tourism Board is working with the Eswatini Tourism Authority in putting together this event under the watchful eye of the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth affairs.

The Chief Administrative Officer, Sandile Magongo mentioned how the Tourism Authority was in charge of bringing in tourists and that they were responsible for showcasing their culture and available activities to tourists. The carnival will host over three countries namely; Zambia, South Africa and Lesotho, just to name a few. Each country will bring different types of their stable foods which will be shared during the event. It was further explained by Magongo that the indigenous food will feed over 100 people who will be in attendance.

Festivities

The day’s festivities are scheduled to start at 7am, beginning with dance troops from the different regions of the African continent showing off their skills, followed closely by arts and craft showcase, fashion and African cuisine segment of the carnival. Entrance to the carnival is E20 for adults and E10 for children. It’s worth noting that initially the event that was supposed to allow free entry, but to control the crowd, the organisers saw it fit to charge. There will also be a legends after- party that will be held at the Solanis Shisanyama. As the concept of the whole event is centred on Eswatini hosting this African unifying project, the carnival will also have sporting activities that will feature soccer legends across the African continent. These legends will be gracing the after party event which will also feature local DJ legends.
