Mbabane – “Emaswati are different, they connect to our music on a Christian level”.

In an exclusive interview with South African (SA) Joyous Celebration co-founder and Gospel artist, Jabu Hlongwane, the country was praised for ‘wearing’ their Christianity on their sleeves. Hlongwane explained and compared what he was stating.

“When we come to Eswatini, we prepare ourselves for a spiritual experience,” explained the artist. He further said that the country has a special layer of spirituality and orientation. The artist said that audiences are different, he shared that South Africans only attended the shows for the vibe and entertainment. The theme of the album of this year’s Joyous Celebration show that will be held at the Mavuso Trade Center on August 27, is ‘Joy’. The group will be here to reboot the spirits of people and spread joy that was stolen by the COVID-19 pandemic. Hlongwane mentioned that this show will be time for people to tap into their source of joy and go back to God. The co –founder also mentioned that the musical group was an open space for talent, singers, song-writers and the likes.

Hlongwane mentioned that in the group they currently do not have liswati, the last one was Nomzamo Dlamini who left to explore the Afro- soul music space. The group currently has two Zimbabwean nationals, but is mainly dominated by SA performers. “We love the music that is written by song-writers in the country , the aspiring artists should make themselves available, because we are open to all talented acts”, said Hlongwane. “Joyous Celebration takes their preparation very seriously. Rehearsals for shows are done two months prior,” shared Hlongwane.

He went on to share that the group’s rehearsals go on for over 10 hours a day. He further said their recordings of albums are live, with an audience. The only one that wasn’t live was during the recording of the group’s 26th album. It was pre-recorded due to pandemic.
