MBABANE - What happened to Amanda Mo?

This has been the begging question on everyone’s lips. The public, fellow industry colleagues and fans of the ‘Sengiyaphula’ hitmaker have been concerned about the singer’s absentia in the music scene. Amanda Mo was one of the first local artists to feature internationally acclaimed DJ Maphorisa in her award winning 2019 album ‘Ngitsandzile’ After speculation and assumptions about the whereabouts of singer - songwriter Amanda Mo, the cat is finally out the bag.  The singer’s contract with Icon BP Media which ran for over four years came to an end in October last year.
Icon BP Media Director Phila ‘Koshini’ Dlamini confirmed that the relationship with Mo had come to an end contractually.

Moment

“OH! No, we do not work together. Our contract ended last year and we both moved on to other things. Angmati wentani at the moment,” were the exact words by Nkoshini. (I do not know what she is doing at the moment).” When Amanda was reached for a comment on the matter and further asked about any latest offerings from her musically she said she needed time to respond to the matter. “I would like to be fully enlightened about the information you want to run with so that I am not blindly answering any of the questions.

To be honest, your timeframe is unfortunately too short for us as I also need to run this through my team and 30 minutes is not enough time,” she said.  Worth noting is that the singer was sent an email a day before she was finally sent a text message. Amanda Mo has been doing quite well for her career in the neighbouring country, South Africa. If her Instagram account that boasts over 20 000 followers is anything to go by, the singer is well on her way. She has been keeping busy by doing song covers. Her latest cover was Ami Faku ‘Asibe Happy’ which is sitting on over 3 000 views on her Instagram reel.

Experienced and renowned stable owner, Melusi Dlamini said a relationship ending between an artist and manager was not tedious.
“An artist manager has no rights over intellectual property of the musician he or she represents. They are in charge of the marketing, bookings, PR and business development,” he said. The artist manager explained that once a contract has been signed, one way of getting out of a contract would be for both the artist and label to deliver as per contract agreement and timelines.  “All good contracts should have timelines and be specific regarding ownership of the catalogue,” he said.
