Mbabane - The Epic Gig Episode III will this year relaunch a platform called Asikhutulisane.

It is an artist workshop aimed at assisting those involved in the local entertainment industry with the tools they need to navigate an ever changing landscape. The theme of this year’s workshop is ‘Empowering the female performer’ and will take place on June 24 at Malkerns Country Club. When reached for comment Tammy Dlamini Event Director gave more information about their drive, “over the years I have noticed that females in the entertainment industry tend to stick to certain roles and music genres. As much as there are those who venture out of these stereotypical areas, we need to see more females getting involved in every part of our industry; from music management, to sound technology, to song writing and whatever it is they wish to venture,” said the director.

He went on to say that he would also like to see more female artists venture into music genres that are not necessarily saturated with women such as Hip Hop and Amapiano, and become song writers, owners and performers where possible. He further said they would basically be unpacking every part of the industry and how women could take advantage of the opportunities that are abound in the different areas. This year’s speaker line-up includes Buffalo Souljah from UNA Music Group, Luvo from Sony Africa, HaniG from Eswatini, Lynda Venter who will speak on brand management and Thobeka Nhlengethwa from the Executive Advisory Firm. Each of these speakers has mastered their field and will be sharing wisdom with those present that is unparalleled.

Uniqueness

“As The Epic Gig we would like to see our industry continue to grow to world-class standards. We value diversity and the uniqueness that our country brings to the global arts and culture stage and believe that we have something to offer that people from different backgrounds will love and appreciate,” said Dlamini. Part of The Epic Gig Episode III’s ethos is to bring together entertainment, arts, culture and fashion from communities across Southern Africa and ultimately the globe. Through this integration we could create an export economy for our creative currency and as a result have a positive impact on our country’s GDP.   Dlamini shared that these initiatives are their way of giving back to the communities and making sure that they develop the industry through skills and opportunities.
