MBABANE – In a continued quest to urge more locals to vaccinate for COVID-19, members of the public will soon be offered discounted prices or gain free access when attending entertainment events.

This was disclosed by Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC) CEO Stanley Dlamini in a telephonic interview. The new developments will be in conjunction with the recently launched Jovel’Industry campaign which was initiated and driven by Business Eswatini together with key arts sector players.

Vaccination

Dlamini said the discounts would be afforded only to members of the public who have since vaccinated for COVID-19 provided they show their vaccination certificates. He said the industry was looking at working with government by having vaccination teams available at entertainment events as a way of encouraging emaSwati to inoculate with the COVID-19 vaccine.

“For example, if there is a comedy night which will accommodate 200 people, vaccinated members of the public will have to pay half the price but I am yet to meet with stakeholders from the Eswatini Events Managers and Promoters Association (EEMPA)  to find a lasting solution in implementing this drive,” he said. EEMPA Chairperson Mthunzi ‘Shadow’ Zwane corroborated Dlamini’s comments on the matter and added that event promoters could register at ENCAC officers where they would find a designated events officer who could assist them in registering the event.

Association

“Members of the association who have fully paid will somehow be subsidized if ever they so wish to host events. The discounts for vaccinated people will differ since events are different from each other so this can depend on the agreement between the association and the event organizer,” he said. It is worth noting that this will only apply to events that have registered with the association on time. Zwane further urged the organisers to register a week prior to that event in order for the association to check if that event is compliant or not, including informing the police who will ensure compliance. He further emphasized that event organisers needed to register their events with EEMPA for E150 to avoid any trouble with the law and said registering was only done from Mondays to Wednesdays.
