MBABANE – The MTN iPraise Digital Festival will finally take place this month.

This was confirmed by the festival’s Project Manager Tammy Dlamini who told the Entertainment Desk that gospel music lovers and members of the public alike would finally get to see their favourite artists perform on September 12, 2021. “After the show was postponed, I can assure emaSwati and gospel music lovers that the MTN iPraise digital festival will finally be taking place on September 12, 2021,” said Dlamini. It is worth noting that the one-of-a-kind digital festival was slated for July 4, 2021 before it was postponed. This was due to a number of factors including the political unrest that was at its peak at the time. According to Dlamini, he said, “This decision was made due to a number of factors; one major reason being the new 6pm curfew set by government which would have meant that the crew and performers could not have been at the live studio venue at the 7pm which was the starting time.”

During the voting process where emaSwati were afforded a chance to choose artists that would perform in the second edition of the MTN iPraise virtual festival,  Mduduzi Nezinceku Zamagawugawu group received the highest number of votes and topped the score board with 7 830 votes. The gospel group was then followed by Satis Khumalo, who managed to secure himself 7 304 votes from supporters. The other artists who made it to the top five includes Make Simelane ne Mcebo we Calvary with 6 810 votes, Maphatsindvuku with 5 439 votes and Africa and Lindo, who received 5 124 votes. In total, more than 46 000 people voted for the MTN iPraise top five. However, since Siphofaneni MP Mduduzi ‘Gawuzela’ Simelane is currently wanted by the police, he will not be able to perform at the festival.

This was confirmed by Dlamini and the MP’s eldest son, Zweli Simelane, who is the manager of the gospel group Mduduzi Nezinceku Zamagawugawu. Zweli said “even though it is highly unlikely that my father will be there to perform, the choir will render its performance, including LaZwide who will be leading it, something which she has done before. Our fans can expect a good performance from the choir on the day of the event,” he said.

Gospel music fan Tive Ngobe said he was excited that the date had finally been decided on as he had waited  too long for it to take place. His sentiments were echoed by Tanele Sikhondze from Nhlangano who said. “Next week Sunday I will definitely to be streaming to watch the show. I am a lover of gospel music and so Im happy that the show will go on.”
