MBABANE – A new face for the Eswatini National Choral Music Association (ENCMA) awaits.

ENCMA will be hosting an annual general meeting on August 21, 2021 at the head offices of Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC), Manzini. During the meeting, the present members will be expected to elect a new board. The outgoing President Sihle Gumbi, said the constitution dictates that all aspirants send their nomination papers to the incumbent Executive Secretary 10 days before the AGM date. “We will ensure we follow all the stipulated steps for fairness and transparency sake,” said Gumbi. Asked on whether the current executive will consider running for a second term, Gumbi said he could not speculate anything as he hadn’t gotten any communication from his fellow executive members on that regard. He, however, called for the injection of new blood and keeping of some of the current members for continuity purposes.

Challenges

The current (ENCMA) executive has arguably faced the most formidable challenges but has been able to host choral music competitions successfully. The team comprises of Sihle Gumbi as President, Maswazi Mkhatshwa as Vice President, Melisizwe Zwane as Executive Secretary, Zama Dlamini as Executive Treasurer, Bheki Maziya as Public Relations Officer (PRO) and additional members Fana Gama, and Khulekani Magongo. “Being in office was indeed not an easy task but working together as a team made things run smoothly, although the COVID-19 pandemic crippled us in a way because we had some other dreams which we ended up not achieving ,but with the upcoming committee we hope they will take over from what we had initially started.

Sincerely

One would like to sincerely thank our partners, which are the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture, Standard bank, Macmillan, Liberty life ,Old Mutual, for such a great journey together and we plead with them to continue supporting choral music ,we will be there to assist the upcoming team,” added the outgoing president. Lwazi Dlamini, who is one of the choral musicians and a member of the association, applauded the work done by the current committee. He said they achieved a lot even though the entertainment sector was halted by the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Great

“They have done a great job especially because our industry was affected by COVID-19. They managed to pull through one of the best choral competitions,” he said. Temasiko attested to the above mentioned and also added that they were looking forward to new people who will also elevate the sector. “Change is also a good thing, the current committee has really set the bar high and made sure our interests are catered for,” she said. More information about the elections will soon be shared on this publication.
