MBABANE – Local talent keeps on pushing the limit.

This statement rings true for Eswatini born Khethuxolo Malinga (23)  be who is the producer and star  of The Parcel, a series of a kind that is yet to be released. Season one of the series which will be released under Golden Western Originals, a company owned by Anna Mirindi and Malinga, is jam packed with local upcoming and renowned actors.  After hustling in South Africa for years at a very young age in 2019, Malinga said he met up with Kgomotso, Rhythm City Director, who advised him to keep on pushing in the film industry.

“I then ventured into writing and producing The Parcel, which we started filming in December 2019, back then it was an hour long film. We made it a demo as we felt like we would do a better job. To be honest I just felt like the project wasn’t good enough and as a team we could do better but working on the first one helped us a lot as we learn on how we could improve.  During the lockdown in 2020 we made a decision to revamp the project and turn it into series which has about 10 episodes. We sat down with the team and started on the script which was written by Mbali Mngometulu, Khethuxolo Malinga and Siphosethu Sibandze,” he said. The Parcel is a 10-episode crime drama series which showcases the urban lifestyle of our youth and older generation. Our story is quite different as we have different storylines in one series which is usually called a breather.

complicated

When shooting scenes malinga said, it was quite complicated due to the coronavirus pandemic especially when it came to choosing locations which suited the style of the series. “The coronavirus has had a huge impact on everyone’s life but as a team we managed to work in these tough times. We managed to get different location sponsors which includes Bookville Institute a school located in mountain inn, Mbabane where we filmed scenes that take place at the school in the series. We have also worked at Riverview Eswatini and Alliance Francaise and many more locations.’’ said Malinga. The projected was supported by Tattoo Palace Eswatini, Dimension Partners, who have had a huge impact during the setting up of the project.
