MTN BUSHFIRE SPONSORS OVER E1.8M TO BENEFICIARIES

MBABANE – A festival hosted for a good cause. 

Established in 2006 by Eswatini-born philanthropist and artist Jiggs Thorne, MTN BUSHFIRE is now a global phenomenon with people from 60 different countries attending each year. 

It’s considered to be one of Africa’s seven best festivals. 

The main beneficiary of  MTN BUSHFIRE is Young Heroes, with a portion of every unique Bushfire ticket sold going directly towards providing food and clothing to over 1 000 orphans.  MTN BUSHFIRE is Eswatini’s acclaimed international music and arts festival held each year at House on Fire, an inspired venue set against a breath-taking rural landscape in the heart of the Ezulwini.

Each year a diverse audience of up to 20 000 people come together over three days to celebrate cultural meeting points, fuelling a feast of magical performances from Africa and beyond.

According to their website, the festival and its stakeholders have sponsored over E1 858 775 towards Young Heroes since the festival began.

It is also mentioned that up to 100 per cent of the profits of MTN BUSHFIRE merchandise sales go towards health, education and sustainable livelihoods for women, families and communities in rural parts of Eswatini, through their partnership with boMake Rural Projects. 

“Since 2010, MTN BUSHFIRE merchandise has raised close to half a million Emalangeni on behalf of boMake Rural Projects. A portion of the festival’s artists’ merchandise sales is also contributed to the projects,” continues the statement. 

For the first time in 2020 since its inception, the festival hosted their much awaited event virtually, which took place in Malkerns at every last to of May. This was due to the coronavirus pandemic, which has grounded most activity in the entertainment and arts sector worldwide. 

Regardless of this, the festival and its stakeholders raised an amount of E101 364.25 last year.

Young Heroes Director Khulekani Magongo, said in an earlier interview, they were grateful to all the stakeholders for the decision to continue to host the event.  He said it meant a lot to them and that they were happy that they would continue to help the children. 

Since 2010, MTN BUSHFIRE festival has contributed close to E500 000 to BoMake Rural Projects. 

With 100 per cent of the profits on MTN Bushfire merchandise sales directed to the organisation, every piece of merchandise purchased by festival guests also contributed to this ongoing support.
