MBABANE –The sky is the limit.

Smallz the comedian & Co popularly known as the ‘Merchants of Bottomless Laughter’ have bought a Toyota Hiace ‘siyaya’ worth E48 000.  The above mentioned was confirmed by the group in an interview with the Entertainment Desk.  They said the Toyota will be servicing the Siteki, Good Shepherd  and  Mzilikazi route in the Lubombo Region. “ Actually, one of three investments the team has embarked on - our investment model is inspired by securing our peace of mind and the future now through a careful selection of portfolio expansion preferences - more so, in light of how COVID-19 continues to plunder the economy and render us artists jobless,” they said. They went on to share that their decision to venture into transportation was a collective one which would allow them to grow.

Opportunity

“The public transport opportunity - and in the  particular route our kombi serves was a collective decision by the team, looking at a space we believed was not very capital intensive, but decent on returns per day, whilst giving us an opportunity to understand the industry dynamics and growing in the business,” they added.   When asked why they decided to start a business during the COVID-19 pandemic, they said their main purpose was to improve the economical scale of the country and create job opportunities.

“Obviously, not as lucrative as we would love - but nonetheless, better than nothing and we remain optimistic for many better days ahead. The idea for now was to start, and here we are, one day at a time,” they said.  They also encouraged local artists to protect their mental health by finding solutions and thinking out of the box. “Your mental health is your wealth - do all and everything you must to protect it, just as you must stay safe from the rage of COVID-19: sanitise, stay home and always were your face mask. Akufutfwe, LOL. We all know that the current COVID-19 Pandemic has halted so many plans and has affected us all. It is very important to focus on the positives and find new creative ways to make a living. We also need to work together to make it through,” they added. It is worth noting that the ‘Merchants of Bottomless Laughter’ are not the only entertainers that have started their own business. Dr Shakes, who is a locally renowned comedian has a tree felling and grass cutting business which he prefers calling ‘Bambitja’.
