MBABANE – Still relevant in recent times.

This statement holds true for local sensational gospel group Ncandweni Christ Ambassadors as in the past weekend they were trending on social media. What began as a Twitter user reminiscing about the good music, which has been rendered by the NCA over the years ended up on the trends list on Sunday night, when a Tik Tok user from the Eastern Cape in South Africa created his own version of the group’s videos.

Platform

Tik Tok is a video-sharing social networking service owned by Chinese company ByteDance. The social media platform is used to make a variety of short-form videos, from genres like dance, comedy and education that have a duration of three seconds to one minute. It has gained popularity in many countries across the world as network companies recognise and create specific internet bundles targeted at the use of this app. The video, which has attracted over 100 000 views on both Twitter and Tik Tok combined was created by Sonwabile Ntsintsi (24), who now resides in the East Rand in Johannesburg.

Locals were amused and they watched and reposted the videos on their own timelines citing that the artists was accurate. Speaking to the Entertainment Desk, Ntsintsi said being a gospel music lover at heart, he was inspired to remake the once popular ‘Ngibon’ amazulu’ video. “I grew up listening to NCA, every Sunday morning before church as my mother would play one of their albums while we prepared for service. My mother’s love and appreciation for gospel music is one of the main reasons that has inspired me to love and appreciate the music genre,” said the vlogger.

He shared that the group’s music had played a huge role not only in his life but the South African gospel music industry as well. “Yesterday morning I came across one of their music videos, which brought back a lot of childhood memories, so I thought it would be nice to recreate a video and honour them,” he continued. Ntsintsi highlighted that through this act he was not only honouring NCA but instilled nostalgia in people through his content by accurately using his own visuals and dance moves as well as the retro outfits in the video.
