MBABANE – It is now six ladies against two gentlemen.

The race to become Eswatini’s next music superstar continues to heat up in ‘The Spotlight Season 2’. This past weekend, ‘The Spotlight’ top 11 was whittled down to the top eight after emaSwati had their say with a stunning 34 127 votes! This makes the total votes cast for ‘The Spotlight Season 2’ to stand at about 84 807 thus far. Before things got down to the nitty-gritties, the top 11 got a chance to put their voices in harmony in the form of a collaboration, to give the nation a taste of how they sound like when they are put together. They came through and dished out two spectacular sets of group performances.  The competition initially bode farewell to four gentlemen; Thabani Mngometulu, Irven Msibi, Lungelo Tom Magongo and David Mpungose.

Rekindle

However, in another exciting turn of events that seems to have now become a norm in ‘The Spotlight Season 2’, the judges once again, for the third time in a row this season, flexed their muscles and used their last save option to rekindle Irven Msibi’s light on ‘The Spotlight’. Therefore, he lived to see another day. Judge Khulekani ‘Karly B’ Mamba said their decision was based on the excellence that Msibi had brought to ‘The Spotlight’ ever since the beginning of the competition. Msibi breathed a great sigh of relief after this set of good news was broken to him by Mamba. “Thank you so much, it means the world to get this opportunity,” said the visibly stunned Msibi. This past weekend, Eswatini’s songbird, Zanele ‘Symphony’ Cele joined ‘The Spotlight’s resident judges to share her expert advice.

Rendition

Sihle Fakudze raised the curtain for last weekend’s solo performances with a beautiful rendition of ‘Welcome Aboard’ by Liquideep and Naledi Masuku followed up with a fabulous rendition of ‘Happiness’ by DJ Cup and Slotta featuring Mvelo. The Spotlight host, Thamsanqa ‘KrTC’ Sibandze said the contestants and judges have done their part, so now it is upon Eswatini to vote.
