She went on to express her heartfelt sadness and condolences to her family.

“Indeed the richest place is the gravesites. She wasn’t just a kwaito artist, but she was one of the best in the game. I wish rest in peace meant return if possible. She might be gone, but what she left in terms of music will live on. She will be greatly missed in the music circles. I am greatly moved and shuttered by such a loss in the music industry. May her soul rest in eternal peace,(sic)” she said.

Sluga, who is a local influencer and personality also shared his condolences.

He mentioned that the Godmother of kwaito music was still young and had a future.

“Why do we have to die so young? It’s terrible to hear about Mshoza’s demise and I express my sincere sympathy to her family more especially her children. ‘Mshoza’ was locally loved because she was a genuinely nice person and a vibe. Rest Kwaito Queen,” he said.

The Eswatini Arts and Music Association (SWAMA), through its Public Relations Officer Bongani ‘Thizalami’ Dube, also shared their condolences.

He also shared how the late Mshoza has contributed in influencing local artists.

‘Mshoza’ has worked with local artist, Mlandvo Landy. Landy, also known to his fans as Ezzey explained, “I started singing in 2004, when I was just 14 years old. My big break came when I entered a competition for the Times of Eswatini where I won first prize.”

Fortunately, Ezzey caught the eye of the queen of kwaito and Fresh Money Family Records executive, Nomasonto ‘Mshoza’ Maswanganyi, who believed in talent.

He was later featured with the late queen of kwaito in a single titled ‘Nobuhle’.

“It has been s an honour for me to be working with her. My grassroots grinding has brought me to this position and I am very sadden by her demise” said the musician.

Ezzey moved to South Africa to pursue his career in music.

“We are shocked to learn of the untimely passing on of kwaito’s royalty, Mshoza, whose music was once anthemic throughout the Southern African region. ‘Mshoza’ managed to penetrate a male dominated industry back in the day, and demonstrated to young women that nothing was impossible for dreamers. She had an amazing stage presence, and was quite assertive in telling her life story in spite of the controversies that the media coined around the same. The year 2020 certainly continues being the most terrible year what with so many lives lost prematurely. May her family, fellow music compatriots and her fans be comforted in this sad time of loss. May she rest in God’s eternal peace,” he said.

‘Mshoza’ rose to fame as the first lady of kwaito with her smash hit Kortes in the early 2000s from her debut album BullDawgz First Lady. She collaborated with stars such as Mzambiya and Msawawa.

In recent years, she made headlines for her obsession with skin-lightening and numerous short-lived marriages. ‘Mshoza’ is survived by her two children Pride and Jacob Junior.

‘Mshoza’, the mother of two, will be remembered as one of the most influential musicians of her generation.
