MBABANE – Banned! Following His Excellency the Right Honourable Prime Minister’s Statement yesterday, the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Harries Bulunga, has officially announced that Sibebe Resort has been banned from hosting and organising any entertainment/arts activity with immediate effect.

This follows the apparent breach of the COVID-19 regulations which happened at an entertainment event held at the Resort over the past weekend.

“These reckless actions go against the clear and straightforward protocols that government and the entertainment industry agreed upon at the reopening of the industry last month.

As such, the ministry, through the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture, has already formally notified Sibebe Resort of the revocation of the Entertainment Activity Hosting Compliance Certificate, until further notice,” read the statement issued by the ministry.

The statement also had a reminder on how event organisers should ensure that they adhere to all COVID-19 health precautions. It shared that the ministry, working together with law enforcement agencies, will strengthen surveillance at events to ensure that COVID-19 protocols are strictly observed.

“The ministry takes this moment to remind artists, event organisers and event hosts of the following guidelines that have to be strictly observed when hosting any entertainment activity.

“Any art/entertainment activity should be hosted in a venue that has applied for and received an Entertainment Activity Hosting Compliance,” it read.

The Sibebe Resort Communications Officer, Larry Mhlanga, confirmed the banishment and said they acknowledged their act.

“We would like to thank the ministry and we are still apologising to the nation for the non-compliance to COVID-19 regulations stipulated by government. We will not be hosting all arts and entertainment events of such magnitude with immediate effect,” he said.
