MBABANE- ‘Postponed with immediate effect’

That was the message shared by the organisers of the Lockdown Eswatini Gospel Music Awards, as the Association of Christian Artists in Eswatini (ACAESWA) have been served with a letter from MTM Ndlovu Attorneys dated November 3, 2020, stating that the Metropolitan Evangelical Church International’s (pty) ltd rightful directors and authorities were not aware of their event which was slated to be on November 7, 2020.

the Public Relations Officer Nhlanhla Mathunjwa, he said the event  was  postponed with immediate effect.

“Following the conflict that has emerged within the Metropolitan Evangelical Church Directorship around the gospel music awards that had been planned for this coming weekend, at the very same church, we regret to inform you that the event has been postponed with immediate effect to a new venue. The date shall be confirmed to the public and sponsors in the next 24 hours,” he said.

He went on to emphasise that they were shocked when they received the letter from the lawyers as they had documents and agreements for use of the venue.

“We would like to state that as an association, we have all documents and agreements that had been prepared for the event with the said partners, however, we would prefer not to be caught in the middle of the existing conflictsof the church and would solely like to focus all our resources on the awards themselves being a success.

This will protect our image and will guarantee the safety of all our guests for the event,” he added.

Mathunjwa   went on to share his apologies to every party involved and assured the nation that they will be hosting the awards.

“We sincerely apologise to the government, sponsors, artists, fans and all stakeholders for the inconveniences caused in this regard. Be kindly assured that the awards shall be a great success and of high standard as planned and we are giving it our highest priority,” he said.

He also encouraged the public to continue voting for their favourite artists as voting lines were still open.

“In the meantime, all voting lines shall be opened until the new date that shall be unveiled soon, kindly continue to vote for your favourite artist and not lose momentum. All tickets remain valid for the event, so kindly keep them safe. We look forward to hosting you. Visit shop.acaeswa.com to purchase your ticket,” he added.

It is worth noting that the awards will be the first black carpet presentation.

Mathunjwa emphasised that the awards presentation will be of international standard and encouraged people to continue buying tickets online.

“We all know that black stimulates perspective and depth, and provides protection from external emotional stress by absorbing all negative energies.

We want to portray such power and elegance and soften the effect of COVID-19, not just to the art industry but to everyone who will come or join us Live on Eswatini Television and the Voice of the Church radio station,” said Mathunjwa.

He further added that the theme of the carpet presentation will be ‘Black & Gold; Glitz in Black’.

“Such a theme is aimed at taking the mind of Emaswati from all that has been happening in the country and reveal the positivity of the nation through glitz and glamour.

We are aware that people do not have the time and chance to wear their designer dresses and suits to a formal event due to the lockdown and we want to give the nation that opportunity before the year ends,” he said.

More information about the awards will soon be shared on the publication.
