MBABANE – Little did she know that her usual TikTok dance videos would get Nigerian and Africa’s number one afropop singer Yemi Alade’s approval.

That is the story of the former Miss UNESWA (University of Eswatini) Kwaluseni Freshers Temakhonkhosi Mndzebele, who was on the spotlight after her mini-clip was reposted by Alade.

In a 30-second clip, Khutsele (her social media handle) is seen dancing to Alade’s latest hit ‘True Love’.

The ‘Johnny’ hit maker reposted the clip, which was, at the time of going to print, sitting on 50 000 views on her Instagram official account, which also boasts 12.3 million followers. Yemi did not only end there but also captioned the video ‘hot’.

The clip received over 100 comments and a majority of Yemi followers were giving the clip a thumbs-up on the liSwati’s dance moves. Alade’s 2019 album, ‘Woman of Steel’, got a nomination for the Best World Music Album at the Grammy Awards.

The internationally acclaimed ‘Mama Africa’ has achieved a number of features since her 2013 break out hit single ‘Johnny’.

She has won the MTV Africa Music Award and has been nominated for many other prestigious awards.

A Grammys nomination is in fact a deserved honour.

When reached for comment,  Mndzebele said she was a dance fanatic and what made her fall in love with the art was the fact that she got to be herself and showcase her talent to the world.

great artist

“So when I saw that Yemi Alade, such a great artist posted my video on Instagram, I was ecstatic and teary to be recognised for doing what I do best,” she added. Mndzebele is one of the few Emaswati, who have gained popularity through TikTok as she has close to 1 million (890 000) likes collectively from all her TikTok videos.

She has over 120 000 followers on the emerging popular social networking video site which has given Netflix, Instagram and YouTube a run for their money.  Mndzebele, 22, was crowned Miss Freshers, Kwaluseni in 2017.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science - Public Administration and Sociology. The young and vibrant sensation works at Velvet Skin Wellness and Beauty Bar.

Tiktok has become a scouting ground for artists for back-up singers or dancers.

squad

Recently a little known girl squad from Pretoria got recognition after dancing to the now popular ‘John Vuli gate’ hit. It has been reported that they (girl squad) will be part of the official video after their clip went viral on TikTok.

Just on Monday, a similar scenario occurred after South Africa Television presenter Ayanda Thabethe went all out for her Halloween look which got the approval of Kim Kardashian.  Ayanda teamed up with local fashion brand, CINNEL, to create similar dresses to the ones Kim and her sisters, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, wore for the launch of their KKW Fragrance collaboration.

Kim praised Ayanda’s efforts after spotting the posts on social media. “OMG THE BEST!” the reality star tweeted.

The 40-year-old also shared Ayanda’s posts on her Instagram story. Ayanda slid into Kim’s DMs to thank her for all the love.
