MBABANE – Try a little tenderness.

Barley a week after its release, Tendaness, whose real name is Tatenda Mandaza’s extended play (EP) titled ‘Try a Little Tendaness’ is making waves in the digital music streaming space.

Tendaness’ manager Sibusiso ‘3T’ Simelane, revealed to the Entertainment Desk that the album was sitting at number one in the Apple Music Dance Charts category yesterday morning.

This is a popular music streaming service among Apple device users and most recently Android users.

In September 2018, during one of the most watched technology events, Apple Music rolled out a new playlist series that would feature the Top 100 songs on Apple Music globally and for those countries, where Apple Music is available.

Currently, the streaming service, which was introduced on June 30, 2015, now has over 50 million paid subscribers worldwide.

Users are able to add local playlists to the top charts in each country or the Top 100 global songs to their library so they could stream them any time or listen to them offline.

feature

The feature was first reported by Rolling Stone, one of the leading international music print publications, which was given a preview of the changes by Apple.

At the launch, there were 116 charts launched in total, including the Top 100 Global and one for each Apple Music market.

According to information on apple.com, many countries currently have access to all of these Top 100 playlist charts, but availability varies according to location. Tim Cook, who is the CEO of the conglomerate, was quoted as saying during the launch, “What is interesting about the top chart playlists is that they’ll be updated daily at 12am based on Apple Music streams, which keeps them fresh.” Tendaness topped the South African dance charts alongside Oscar Mbo, Major League and Quebur, who are all in the top five.

Tendaness’ manager said this was an exciting and amazing time in the artist’s life because it was a first of its kind occurrence for any artist from the Kingdom of Eswatini.

“People are slowly catching up on this new wave of streaming music and we are grateful for that,” said Simelane.

The EP was released last Friday and has only four songs, which feature South African vocalist, Vuyokazi Tshaya, Nontu X as well as Bryan the Mensah.

release

Upon its third day of release, which was on Monday, Tendaness’ EP was already toppling other artists in the charts as it stood at number six in the ‘dance’ category of the charts.

Yamnand’impilo, which is the lead single for the EP, has been taking local radio charts by storm as it has been featured in the Top 20 EBIS 2 Charts hosted by Lindelwa ‘Lindz’ Mafa as well as Bongani ‘DJ Tizalami’ Dube. Locally, the EP will be launched at Mdzimba View Shisanyama this coming Saturday, where merchandise from the artist and his debut album titled ‘Tendaness’ will be showcased.

“With this event we are basically saying that with the launch for ‘Try a Little Tendaness’, people should actually go back and listen to the album he released in 2019 as we felt that it was ahead of its time,” he said.

Simelane highlighted that during the live performances people would get to hear both the EP and the album. At the time of this publication going to print, the song was still sitting at the same spot in the Apple Music streaming service’s Pop Charts.
