MBABANE – Although so much time has passed, people’s memories remain unchanged.

This was true with Eswatini Swazi Soul singer, Mbongiseni ‘Bholoja’ Ngubane’s song titled ‘Indzawo Yami’, when it was played on ‘The River’. The River is a South African telenovela, played on the elite 1 Magic channel on DStv with a fully star studded cast featuring Sindi Dlathu, Hlomla Dandala and Presley Chweneyagae. The song was played just as the credits were rolling up the screen after an emotional scene.

Exciting

According to the Creative Producer of Tshedza Pictures, Bonga Vilakazi sharing the talent that Africa has was one of their mandate as a production company and using the song was an exciting moment for them. He said they got the clearance to use the song a while back after showing interest in it. Although the song was recorded in 2005, it was officially released in 2010 under Sheer Sound Label, which is a record label that was established in 1994 in South Africa. The label has produced many award winning artists such as Oliver Mtukudzi, Zim Nqawana and Gloria Bosman.

Promote

Speaking to the Entertainment Desk, Bholoja said the song got to the producers of the telenovela through the company he used to promote his music in South Africa. “Personally, I  feel great about it as it fulfils my true sense of composition, because I love to create timeless music,” he said. He also stated that he had ventured into different genres of music such as electro and afro pop to appeal to the current times as he did with the song ‘Jika’, where he was featured by Tendaness.

Collaborate

Bholoja revealed that he was currently in studio working on his third album titled ‘Swati Soul Gospel’. He emphasised on the need to work hard on a brand in order to collaborate with international artists. “I have ambitions to collaborate with huge artists so for that to happen I need to put in hard work so that it matches their standards. Artists such as Sandziso ‘Sands’ Matsebula have also had their music played on South African telenovelas such as Isibaya. Social media went into a frenzy as locals shared their excitement about the song being played on international telenovelas, with some citing that Eswatini had amazing talent.
