MBABANE – Inspirational.

Our entertainers are taking center stage when it comes to empowering emaSwati in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. Illa Penboy, whose real name is Sifiso Ndlanamandla, and Daladi Dlamini put their hands together with the Municipal Council of Manzini when they cleaned and disinfected the Manzini Bus rank. The exercise, which was conducted  early in the morning  on Friday, attracted the duo who have been working together in the entertainment scene for a while now.

Illa Penboy is no stranger to the Eswatini entertainment space, being a rapper and events organiser while Daladi is the owner of popular hangout spot, Emfuleni Lifestyle. The cleanup campaign was hosted by the municipality in order to flatten the curve against COVID-19. This pandemic which has seen nine emaSwati confirmed to have contracted it called for the government of Eswatini to institute a total shutdown of non-essential services in the country last Friday afternoon.

Voluntarily

Speaking to the Entertainment Desk, council’s Public Relations Officer Mathokoza Thwala said the two gentlemen voluntarily participated in the campaign. Thwala said that the two mentioned that although they were not living in Manzini, their hearts and roots were deeply rooted in the city even though through other commitments they were based in other cities.
“Daladi upon learning that Council would be disinfecting the bus rank informed us that he actually had some of the equipment required for the programme. He said he would love to participate as his way of giving back to the community as well as a form of lending a hand in the fight against the virus,” he said.

The PRO Officer also added that this was a heartwarming gesture from the entrepreneur and he also took a moment to encourage other business people, celebrities, politicians and people from all walks of life to assist in whichever way that they could. He further added that the fight against the virus was an issue that affected all people and everyone had to join hands to contain it. He urged all citizens to participate in the exercise of flattening the curve by doing all they could including staying at home if they could as well as taking all the necessary precautions to conquer the virus.

Meanwhile, the two personalities said they appreciated and commended the efforts taken by the government towards the fight against COVID-19. Illa Penboy said he understood how bad the situation was economically and socially and he took this as a call to take part and inspire other people to participate in the exercise to prevent the virus from spreading. “My part as an artist is to encourage others especially on social media on how severe this virus is and how we will feel the effects if we do not adhere to the health practitioners’ advices,” he said.

Coronavirus

Meanwhile, Daladi said the coronavirus issue was one that involves everyone in the world especially those who havw the means to do so. He said they were not just doing it for the Manzini city but were willing to assist every other town or city that needed their help. “As people who are in the entertainment sector within Eswatini, we have a following which is the youth in particular and we have to lead by example,” he added. He also said that as influencers in the country they had to be seen as partaking in the programmes to empower other people in the country.

He concluded that through the activity they inspired other people to come out and offer help in preventing the spread as there was a woman who came forward to say they were manufacturing masks that they would love to donate. The two join other celebrities in the world over who have taken an initiative to help curb the spread of the coronavirus.
