MBABANE – “Heal the world and make it a better place, for you and for me and the entire human race...”

Those are the lyrics taken from a song titled Heal the World by Michael Jackson. The old school song talks about the importance of helping each other as humans. The Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture has joined hands with local artists and the government in spreading awareness about the novel coronavirus which has spread across the world. The first of the videos has seen two of Eswatini’s well loved artists, Cleopatra Methula and Zanele ‘Symphony’ Cele who were giving advice on the precautions we as emaSwati could take in preventing the spread of the coronavirus as well as how we could avoid catching it. Methula, who is a country music singer, has won two international awards at the 2019 Texas Sounds International Country Music Awards that were held at the United States of America in Texas.

Title

She came back home with the titles of the ‘Best Duo ’and ‘Best Rising Star of the year’. Symphony has been taking the Eswatini music scene to greater heights as she represented the country in the AfriMusic Song Contest which was held in 2018. She has also featured alongside South Africa’s hip hop star Fifi Cooper in an award winning film, Losing Lerato in 2019.
Speaking to the Entertainment Desk, CEO of the ENCAC, Stanley Dlamini said the Government of Eswatini had called upon every sector to send messages of support, warning and preventative messages on COVID-19. Dlamini mentioned that artists commanded a huge following of social media users, audiences as well as media authorities.

Influence

He said as a sector they were hoping to use their influence to reach out to every society. “The messages are basic World Health Organisation (WHO) and government precautionary messages which they also screened before publishing to make sure they met the right standards,” he said. The queen of country music Cleopatra ‘Miss Roses’ Methula leads by example as she was part of the local artists who made a video raising awareness.
