According to studies shop, self-confidence is an attitude about your skills and abilities.
It means you accept and trust yourself and have a sense of control in your life. You know your strengths and weakness well, and have a positive view of yourself. People with low self-confidence often have errors in their thinking.

GCWALA   spoke to one of the upcoming event organiser gurus, Deo Magagula Who took us in into her world of confidence.
Her interview was relaxing as she had a bubbly but humble personality.

She shares her experiences and advice to her peers.
Her photoshoot was smooth as she was confident with herself and comfortable in her own skin.

Who is Deo?
Deo right now is a 23-year-old woman, who loves fashion, music, reading and so much more.  I am very ambitious, a creative, focused yet spontaneous. I just graduated from Limkokwing University LUCT with an Associate Degree in Events Management, I model, I sing. I am a firm believer of self-improvement and learning new things.

What do you understand about self-confidence?
In my perspective self-confidence is knowing your worth, that you are enough, that you are beautiful with imperfections and all, having faith in yourself, loving yourself even on your worst days.

Have you ever had challenges with self-confidence?
Of course, almost my whole teenage stage, I felt so unworthy and tried so hard to fit in and be accepted by everybody, until I realised I don’t need validation from the world, the only person I need validation from is me.

How does being confident help you as a person?
Being confident helps me face my challenges, believe in myself and the decisions that I take as a person. It helps me navigate through life with a sense of purpose and self acceptance, it also helps me try to always present the best  version of me.

Being an event organiser demands passion and confidence, what made you jump for Events Management at school?
My love for creating, I’ve always been a creative when growing up and I love how events let you express how you feel, while bringing people together.

What advice would you give to someone with a low self-esteem?
I would advise them to try shut out all the toxic people, start focusing on who they really want to be. Make peace with yourself and the things they cannot change. People need to embrace their imperfections it is what makes them unique, and lastly they should try dressing up. I have noticed that dressing up and looking fabulous increases self-esteem even on your worst days.

How do you link self-esteem and mental health in your own understanding?
Your self-esteem does directly affect your mental health .If you have  a low self-esteem  you constantly have these feelings of unworthiness and you are constantly negative to yourself  which can lead to serious anxiety and depression ,but as you try to improve your self esteem your mental  health improves  too.

What feeds your creativity?
The passion, life experiences and there is always that feeling you get after making something that you are proud of; it is priceless.

How is life after school?
Honestly, it’s  a very confusing stage of your life where you get to face the real world which is not as friendly as the world you coming from. When you still in school you think  your degree is going to bring all the answers but that’s not the case in the real world, you have to prove yourself, work hard, work smart, socialise, network.  It’s not easy.

Name five things people do  not know about you?
l     I am a loner I love being around people but I really love my space.
l     I am a big Jessie Reyez fan.
l     I can’t swim.
l     I am adventurous, I love exploring new things and places.
l     I am a very emotional person.
