MBABANE – Standard Bank has increasingly shown its commitment to growing arts and culture in the coun- try.

Recently, they have undoubtedly shown this by increasing the annual Standard Bank Choral Music Competition to E200 000.
This year’s sponsorship was revealed at the Standard Bank Choral Competition launch at the bank’s head offices at the Corporate Place, Swazi Plaza in Mbabane.

Last year, they sponsored with E150 000, making it a E50 000 increase.
The same E150 000 sponsorship was maintained in 2017 and 2018.

The sponsorship has seen an increase of 100 per cent since 2016 where the choral competition was given E100 000.
The bank has, in total, injected E750 000 into the choral competitions in past five years.
Standard Bank Head of Personal and Business Banking Charles Hlatshwayo, in his remarks, said this year marked 27 years since the bank partnered with the Eswatini National Choral Music Association (ENCMA).

The association is the mother body of the choral music fraternity in the country and one of the duties is to coordinate competitions.
“Over the past six years, we have committed over E800 000 towards this cause. Standard Bank remains committed to being among the key players supporting choral music locally and we are excited to be part of this initiative again this year through a Sponsorship of E200 000,” said Hlatshwayo.

Lucky

Hlatshwayo said they remained committed to supporting the development of the arts in Eswatini.
“In line with bringing the Standard Bank brand closer to emaSwati, we will be giving away tickets to lucky winners who will open an Achiever Account at any Standard Bank branch between the months of February and March.

“I am positive that the competition will attract an even bigger audience this year to witness choirs render melodies that leave one inspired to join a local choir.”
He also said they had wished to inject more money but they could not because of budget constraints due to the tough economic times.

Thanked

ENCMA Chairperson Sihle Gumbi thanked the sponsorship, saying that they were looking forward to a relationship that would last another 27 years.
Gumbi revealed that this year’s competition would be hosted at Esibayeni Lodge in Matspha on April 5.

Entrance fee is E100 for general and E300 for VIP tickets.
