MBABANE – EmaSwati have fully infiltrated South African screens! A new South African drama titled ‘The Omen’ has proven that as it has incorporated five emaSwati to be part of the cast.

‘The Omen’ is a new Mzansi Magic Sunday drama series that has replaced ‘Ifalakhe’. The 13-episode series is based on a high flying lawyer, who has his life turned upside down when he discovers that he comes from a long line of witches, whose men have ruled the supernatural world for five tribes.
The drama was premiered on January 5 this year and it airs on Mzansi Magic channel 161 on DStv.

The five emaSwati who act on the drama are Ntombifuthi Simelane, Mkhosi Masuku, Sambulo Ngcamphalala, Buyile Sibiya and Nolwazi Simelane.

Witches

Masuku and Ngcamphala act as war-locks while Ntombifuthi, Nolwazi and Sibiya portray witches.
Ntombifuthi and Masuku are not new to South African screens.

Ntombifuthi was once part of Isibaya cast while Masuku acted as a warrior on ‘Ifalakhe’. When reached for comment, the former Isibaya actress from Hlatikhulu confirmed that she was part of the cast.

“I was part of the cast in November and December when the shooting was done,” she said. She said she could not comment any further.
Other cast members in the drama include renowned South African actors Lesley Musina, Ayanda Bandla, Mamarumo Marokane, Martha Mokhatshelwa, Refilwe Madumo and others.

Becky Castings Founder and Director Bekezile Dube confirmed that the five emaSwati were part of the cast in the mentioned new drama.
Becky Castings is a South African agency that casts models, dancers, musicians, actors, extras and featured extras together with musical bands for movies, adverts, and soapies. Becky Castings partnered with Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture in promoting local talent.

“I got them the roles as I work directly with casting directors who trust and rely on me for the type of casts that they need.
“Lately, I have been drawn to put emaSwati on different casts,” said Dube. In a past interview, ENCAC CEO Stanley Dlamini promoted emaSwati artists to collaborate with Becky Castings so they can grow their wings.

The five actors’ luck struck just after model and actor Nolwazi ‘Snowee’ Simelane bagged a role on Netflix series ‘The Professionals’ and movie ‘Seriously Single’.
Another liSwati, who has been acting in South Africa for many years now, is model and personality Amanda du Pont.
