MBABANE – Another cross-border music collaboration for Eswatini!

Barely two months after Eswatini’s golden-boy Sands collaborated with Lesotho jazz giant Tsepo Tshola, the much celebrated Zanele ‘Symphony’ Cele has collaborated with South African rapper Fifi Cooper. Their collaboration is a new song titled ‘Lerato’ which dropped on Fifi Cooper’s recently released EP titled ‘New Skool Hip Hop’.

News of the artists working together has been making waves on social media. Fifi Cooper, real name Refilwe Boingotlo Moeketsi (born 27 October 1991), is a South African recording artist. Fifi Cooper started her music career as an RnB singer before her musical versatility saw her release her breakthrough rap single ‘Chechela Morago’ in 2010. In 2015, she released her award-winning debut studio album 20FIFI. Symphony confirmed the collaboration, stating that it was quite interesting how it came about. “Fifi Cooper was meant to collaborate with another South African star that I won’t mention but just before it was finalized Kagiso gave her my music which she loved and she opted for me instead.

“Luckily we were in South Africa that week promoting my current album and that’s when we got a call from Kagiso telling us the news and that I was supposed to be in studio the following day,” she said. ‘Lerato’ is one of the sound tracks in the movie ‘Losing Lerato’, a movie whose starring is Scandal’s former actor Kagiso Medupi ‘Mangie’, a father who lost his daughter. The song basically talks about the pain of losing someone special to you and how sometimes it takes us time to realise how special love is.

The song was recorded in Sandton after being written by Fifi Cooper and Symphony. It was then produced and mastered by Jeremy ‘BFB’ Matewere. “I am excited to say that it’s in Fifi’s brand new EP as well,” she said. A music video to the song has been shot and. It was shot in Johannesburg by Pilot Films. “I have already been receiving great response from people who have heard the song. Being part of this has seen me meet people I never thought I would meet anytime soon which is important because networking is key in this industry.” The song bird said she was excited about her future.
