MBABANE - In his native Xhosa language, South African comedian Siya Seya managed to crack the ribs of comedy lovers during the Bundle of Jokes comedy show.

This was at the third edition of the comedy show series, which is hosted by Eswatini renowned comedian Dr Shakes, real name Bonginkhosi Dlamini.
Seya, the Xhosa comedian from the Eastern Cape in South Africa, while speaking in his native language, shared awesome jokes with the crowd which packed the main bar area at Solani’s Shisanyama in Mbabane on Wednesday.

It is worth noting that on the night, the organiser of the how, Dr Shakes, pleaded with journalists not to publish the jokes performed on the night because he said most comedians were not comfortable with their material being published. This, because they did not want their jokes repeated elsewhere or rather people not enjoying their next shows because of jokes that might be repeated.

However, most of his jokes centred around love, relationships and the hardships of staying in Johannesburg.
Also, another outstanding comedian for the night was Thembela Mamba, who was also the MC. While he made sure that the  evening ran smoothly, he cracked jokes while engaging with the crowd.

Consistent

Nunu Thwala, a comedy lover who has been consistent with attending Dr Shakes’ Bundle of Jokes, said she was happy that the initiative was growing.
“I believe that these comedy nights by Dr Shakes will reach international standards. Actually, he is growing his brand, especially by inviting such celebrated comedians,” said Thwala.

She also said she was wowed by Seya’s rendition as he managed to make her and her friends laugh while speaking in Xhosa.
“He did not even offend anyone in the process as most comedians do,” said Thwala.
Comedian Dr Shakes said his aim was to deliver the best comedy shows in the country.

“EmaSwati should expect more comedians like Siya Seya. My aim is to deliver nothing but the best,” said Dr Shakes.
Seya, the headlining act, said he was delighted to see the crowd responding to him.

“I was worried that my Xhosa would be a language barrier but I am glad it was not,” said Seya.
SWAMA President Melusi Zox Dlamini said they were proud of the way comedy was growing in the country and how emaSwati are showing support to the genre.

He added that they are looking forward to more comedians taking up the initiative of hosting shows like Dr Shakes has been doing as these will help them master their craft and give them exposure as well.
The next Bundle of Jokes will fea, ture South African comedian Chris Mapane on August 28.

The third edition of Bundle of Jokes was headlined by Amawele aseChesterville.
According to IOL, Seya is one of the comics who will be joining the line-up which includes comedians who have appeared on Comedy Central and the Blacks Only Comedy Show.
Seya, born in Mdantsane in the Eastern Cape, moved to Cape Town in 2007.
