KWALUSENI – Nosipho Nkambule and Thabiso Tsabedze were crowned Mr and Miss UNESWA 2019 last Friday night.

The 19-year-old newly-crowned beauty queen from Ngculwini became emotional as her group of friends celebrated her victory. The Barchelor of Arts in Social Science first year student seemed to be shocked and overwhelmed by the triumph.
Tsabedze remained calm and collected on stage but during an interview after the crowning he said he was excited and did not believe he took the title home during the well-attended event. Tsabedze is doing his second year as an Animal Science student.

competing

The two were among the over 30 contestants who were competing for the titles at the Kwaluseni Sports Emporium. Mazwi Nkambule walked away with the First Prince title with Nkosinathi Sibandze taking home the Second Prince crown. The First Princess title went to Neliswa Dlamini while Claudia Ginindza won the Second Princess title.

The event attracted students in stylish and skimpy outfits with colourful suits also being dominant on the night. The exciting audience rallied behind every contestant on the runway with inspiring energy coupled with irresistible cheers.
Nkambule said she did not feel nervous as she advanced through to the top five but nerves got the better of her just a few minutes before the big announcement- the crowning.

overwhelmed

“I am happy I eventually took it home. I was overwhelmed by emotions because I knew I had made a whole lot of people proud, including myself. It was a great night for me, I appreciate the support I got from my colleagues,” she said.
Tsabedze thanked the organising team for putting together a great event.

“I joined because I was ready to compete and I did just that. It was tough but worth it. I would like to thank the organising team for putting together a great event, we had fun,” he said.
The audience were treated to a great show by the contestants, who rocked the runway with elegant outfits and interesting walks and poses. The DJs of the night also added to the fun.

highlight

After the crowning at 2am, DJ Lady Zee took over the stage and made everyone dance. However, the highlight of the night was when South African house group Banger Boys took over the turntables and drums. The outfit delivered an animated live performance of hard-hitting drums and gqom tunes which had the audience sweating it out on the dance floor.

“We thank everyone who supported us during this show,” UNESWA Entertainment Director, Vusi Dlamini, said.
DJ Culolam, who played a pivotal role in bringing the Banger Boys, described the house music outfit as outstanding on stage. He thanked them for honouring the event.
