MBABANE – The journey to the Standard Bank Choral Competition is becoming lighter for choirs. Macmillan Education Swaziland has injected a sum of E40 000 to Eswatini National Choral Music Association (ENCMA), which will be utilised for this year’s Standard Bank Choral Competition. The competition is slated for March 31 at Kwaluseni Emporium, starting from 9am until late.

Present during the presentation yesterday morning at the Macmillan Education Swaziland offices in Matsapha was ENCMA Chairperson Sihle Gumbi, Macmillan Education Swaziland Managing Director Busisiwe Simelane and other officials.
It is worth noting that Standard Bank has been partners in the choral music association for over 23 years.

Two weeks ago, Standard Bank injected E150 000 to the same competition as the title sponsor, totalling to E190 000 sponsorship that ENCMA has received for the Standard Bank Choral Competition so far.

ENCMA Chairperson Gumbi thanked Macmillan for its commitment in the promotion of choral music in the country.
“We would like to thank Macmillan for showing such nobility to the choral music industry together with Standard Bank. These two entities have shown commitment to seeing the sustained growth of music and the choral music industry has been built on, in this country,” he said.

Macmillan Education Swaziland Managing Director Simelane said the sponsorship was motivated by the fact that their entity was celebrating 40 years and it was their way of inviting choirs to celebrate with them.
“Macmillan promotes creativity in arts and choral is part of that and to show them that we appreciate them we saw it fit that we give them the stated amount for the upcoming competitions,” said Simelane.

It is worth noting that this will be Macmillan Swaziland’s first time sponsoring ENCMA; however they have been sponsoring other choral initiatives like Ntjilontjilo.
Simelane’s support for the arts in the country landed her as the Board Chairperson of the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture.
Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC) CEO Stanley Dlamini thanked Macmillan Education Swaziland for always supporting the arts in the country.

“The company has previously supported sibhaca and ingadla competitions and we are grateful that they have extended their noble deeds to choral,” said Dlamini.
Tickets to the Standard Bank Choral Competition have been released and are available in Mbabane, Matsapha and Manzini Standard Bank branches. They retail at E100 and will be bought through ATMs as well.
On Saturday, there will be a workshop for choral music conductors in preparation for the competition.
