MBABANE – The battle for the ACASWA hot seat is on! There is a fake list suggesting the new executive committee to take over from the interim committee started circulating on social media. The fake list was unleashed to the public just before the past weekend and caused gospel artists to sing different tunes.

The usually united members of the Association of Christian Artists in Eswatini (ACASWA) have been left divided by who should lead them as the association’s elections are drawing closer. What is apparent is that the local gospel musicians are not singing the same tune.

As things stand, it seems the gloves are off in the gospel music industry with suggestions that the fake list is backed by a section of the gospel artists.
Upon receiving news about the fake list, the interim committee, being led by President Dumisani Manana, laughed off the suggested list from unknown persons. The amused committee did not want to give the circulating list any attention.

Finishing

“We do not know where this fake list comes from, all we are doing as the interim committee is finishing the work that we started when we were elected to office. The membership will officially elect a new executive committee they see fit to lead them,” ACASWA Secretary Thamie Ndlovu said.
The fake list put former member of the executive committee, Terence Matse, as the president of the association while a new face in the ACASWA leadership in Mandla ‘Cheeks’ Nxumalo is suggested to take the position of deputy president. Ronnie Dlamini is suggested to bounce back as the PRO and Thabile Myeni be given the treasurer seat.

Other members that form part of the fake list are Sibonangabo Sikhondze and Pastor Dubazane.
While visibly pleased by the suggested executive committee, Matse said he was deeply humbled by the fact that artists felt he could serve them well in leading the association.

“Surely, I cannot afford to disappoint them, if it is their desire to make me their president. I am ready to serve them and by the grace of God, nothing is impossible to achieve when we are in unity. I also personally believe that all the suggested candidates here have good abilities to lead the association,” he said.

Flattered

Mandla ‘Cheeks’ Nxumalo was also flattered by the suggested list.
“It is really flattering to get notice for the small work we do. We all want the best for the association as an umbrella body for our gospel artists,” Nxumalo shared.

Former PRO Ronnie Dlamini said his focus was on the report currently being compiled by the interim committee.
“The interim committee is busy with its work, preparations for the elections are already underway and so we will hear from them on what to do. A lot of people have been asking me about the fake list but for me, it is a wait-and-see situation,” Dlamini said.

Besides the suggested list, a section of the membership believes Dumisani Manana is the perfect choice to lead them as he oozes enough experience and respect.

“He has led the association before, he knows what is expected of him and he is already doing a good job. I do not think we need a new president because we already have one,” an artist who preferred to remain anonymous said.

Bounce

On the other hand, ousted President Mzwakhe Myeni is of the belief that he will bounce back as the president once the elections are done.
“Despite everything that has happened, a number of gospel artists still want me to be their president. They believe in me and I am humbled by their love and support. I am looking forward to the elections,” Myeni said.

The interim committee is currently compiling a report on how the association was run under the leadership of Myeni and is expected to deliver it to its membership before the end of this month.
