MBABANE – Popular gospel star, Mayibongwe Mthimkhulu, suffered a health scare just a week before her performance at Umlilo crossover show.

Known for colourful performances and topping charts in the gospel music industry, Mthimkhulu had a lot to be thankful for during the crossover night, following a gloomy week.

The gospel musician was hospitalised and she further missed the show, organised by MP Mduduzi ‘Gawuzela’ Simelane.
However, despite missing the show she was looking forward to, Mthimkhulu said she was grateful her life was spared after the difficult week of hopping from one hospital to another.

“I was set to perform at the Umlilo crossover in Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre, just like I did in the previous edition, however, that could not happen because I was hospitalised.

Diagnosed

‘‘I fell ill just a week before the show and I was rushed to Philani Clinic on the same night I fell sick. I could not talk and walk properly. I was diagnosed with severe ulcers and I was transferred to Piet Retief for further treatment,” she explained.

She said the doctors in Piet Retief booked her for an endoscopy procedure, which will be done later this month. She said after falling sick, she informed the organisers of the show about her unfortunate scenario.

“I am disappointed because I was looking forward to entertain gospel music lovers. My whole band was also dejected as they have been looking forward to our performance. I am sorry to my fans for not being able to perform at the show,” she added.

Recovery

Upon receiving the apology, Simelane said he was also touched by Mthimkhulu’s condition and further thanked her for clearing the air on why she did not show up at the show.
“I like her spirit. We wish her a speedy recovery,” Simelane said.
In addition, Simelane said no payments had been  made by the time Mthimkhulu got sick.

The Umlilo crossover show, which was themed ‘Gawuzela crossover’, saw over 20 000 people flock to the stadium for an epic crossover night where big name artists such as Thinah Zungu, Tshwane Gospel Choir, Mduduzi neziNceku zamagawugawu and Frans Dlamini brought the house down.

Thanked

The show further trended on social media as Thinah Zungu posted about it, where he thanked local music lovers and the organiser for a great show.
A number of videos captured during the show also made their way to social media.
