BIG BEND - The European Union’s humanitarian deeds are indeed revealing new Eswatini talent.

Mayaluka Stadium in Big Bend saw a handful of new talent from the town and other parts of Eswatini being revealed and embraced on Saturday, and all this was entailed, courtesy of the European Union. Dubbed ‘EUnited Arts of Swaziland Festival- Fourth Edition’, the event saw top notch performances by songbird Pachanga, acoustic guitarist and singer Thembela, poet Zithile, kwaito artist and rapper Thiba, popular DJ Andile, and adding zest to these vibrant performances was renowned MC and poet Nana Sambo, who was the programme Director of the day. The new talented artists revealed  were rap duos of Street Swazi, who performed two songs and Township Culture, the duo that captivated the crowd and got them singing along.

Attended

The show, which was attended by just over 100 people, began at 1.30pm and from the start, all the acts of the day were given about three songs to render and backing them was a band, which had veteran instrumentalist Nhlanhla Shongwe, a member of the internationally-renowned Soul Friends band. The scorching sun and strong winds did not dampen the spirits of performers as they danced like its December, attracting the people of Big Bend to Mayaluka Stadium. The programme was set to develop arts in Eswatini and was launched in April last year under Minerva and the title ‘EUnited Arts of Swaziland’ was designed to evocate and immediately highlight the European Union’s support for arts and culture in Eswatini at all levels. Minerva Project Manager Riccardo Severi said they were happy to contribute to Eswatini’s growth through the arts. “Our aim is also to reveal new talent and give them resources to strengthen their careers. Currently, we have rehearsal space in Mbabane and I hope artists will use it,” he said.
