MBABANE – In as much as artists have intensified their campaigns for votes at the ongoing MTN SWAMA Awards voting process, setbacks that might cost a number of the entertainers have arisen.

The mouthpiece of Eswatini Arts and Music Association (SWAMA), Thabile Mdluli, revealed news that would be disappointing to both artists and voting fans, as she said at least 100 votes have gone to waste due to voting wrongly.  She said these votes will be regarded as invalid when the adjudication process takes place.

“Meanwhile, despite fans and followers casting over 15 000 votes since voting was officially opened in July, there are still a few who are voting wrongly. As a result, nearly 100 votes have been spoiled,” she revealed through an official statement.

Voting

In explanation, Mdluli made it clear that the votes were regarded as invalid because they were casted with no mention of either the name of the artist being voted for or the category, while adding that voters wrote their names and not the names of the artists they were voting for.

While listing some of the mistakes committed by voters, she also pointed out that artists were allocated in wrong categories, while others were voted for in a group in one SMS, yet it is not allowed.  Lastly, she added that voters also made the mistake of writing ‘Swama 6161’ instead of the name of the artist followed by the category.

The proper way to vote is to SMS Category, Name of Artist to 6161 (e.g. Best Duo/Group, Dynamic Trio). SMS costs only E1.
RnB singer, Zoe Genesis, said as artists, they needed to make sure they communicated the steps of accurate voting and make it their goal to let the fans get it right. While Rap artist, 80 Scripts, said he was unfazed by the invalid votes.
