MBABANE – Masikane is also proof that the Eswatini flair is just loved everywhere.

Less than a month after making it on SABC 2’s Morning Live, Eswatini-born traditional music artist Masikane, real name Sifiso Simelane, made it to South Africa’s veteran lifestyle show known as Selimathunzi.

The interview happened at the South African Traditional Music Awards (SATMAs) two weeks ago and was aired last week.
In the brief interview, the artist, who was nominated under the ‘Best liSwati Album’ was conversing in siSwati.

Enjoyed

The presenter enjoyed his humour in the interview, stating that he was bound to embrace his native language, especially in this event which embraced different cultures.
SATMAs are under the Recording Industry of South Africa’s (RISA) music industry awards which were established in 1995.
Also, Masikane told this publication that he was motivated by his loss at the annual SATMAs which were held last weekend.

Masikane’s nominated for his new album titled ‘Mholo Wami’.
“It means a lot to me that I was nominated, as it portrays that I produce quality music. Also, the nomination elevated the Eswatini flag and that is an honour to me,” he said.

Masikane lost to Makhalisa, who took the ‘Best SiSwati Album’ title.
Combat
SATMAs aim at bringing together various ethnic and racial groups through the celebration of our diverse musical heritage, as we combat tribalism and all the other divisive measures.

Also, the awards are concerned with unearthing and developing traditional musicians, providing platforms to traditional musicians who recognise, honour, award and showcase their God-given talents.
