MBABANE – It is now apparent that rapper 80 Scripts is someone who never keeps his mouth shut when he feels disrespected.

The ‘Yaya’ hitmaker found himself in the midst of a fiery Facebook war with rap artist Illa Penboy, labelling him a crook in a series of posts shared on his personal account.

The unfolding feud surfaced to the public’s eye last weekend, where 80 Scripts went on a long rant as to why there is bad blood between him and Illa Penboy. The Facebook posts started flowing last Saturday evening; however, they were later removed.

80 Scripts, whose real name is Zolile Motsa, accused the ‘Cheese over Bontjies’ hitmaker, Sifiso Ndlangamandla, famously known as Illa Penboy, for the alleged act of failing to pay him the balance following his performance at Gcwalisa Mogambo. He further accused the artist of disrespecting him and other artists as he alleged he ignored his several attempts where he tried getting hold of him. The event was held in September.

In a twist of events, Illa Penboy decided to reply with a Facebook post which was shared on Sunday morning, where he accused the enraged rapper of breaching an agreement over his booking to perform at this year’s Gcwalisa Mogambo edition.

This post did not last long as Illa Penboy later deleted it and instead apologised to his fans and management for his reaction.

Failed

In the post, he made allegations to the effect that he and 80 Scripts agreed on a fee of E3 000, and a deposit of E1 500 was paid to the talented rapper. Illa Penboy went on to say 80 Scripts failed to abide by the agreements they had as he alleged he failed to keep time or promote the show.
Illa Penboy said he paid only E1 000 of the balance and withheld the E500.

“I think he is pulling a stunt because I talked to his management and we reached an agreement on Saturday evening. This after he started to post about me on Facebook. Look, I told him I would only give him E1 000 instead of the E1 500 we had agreed upon because he breached the agreement we had,” said Illa Penboy.

He further said he told 80 Scripts that as part of the agreement, he was to post and promote the show, which he never did and further failed to keep time during the event. Illa Penboy went on to accuse 80 Scripts of not pitching through to the show on time as he came after midnight, yet the agreement they had was 80 Scripts performing at 9pm.

This then, according to Illa Penboy, led him to pay 80 Script E2 500 instead of E3 000 which they agreed on earlier.
When contacted, 80 Scripts asked to talk to his manager before making any comments but confirmed that the contents found on social media platforms were factual.

His manager, Phumelele Smith, also confirmed that they held discussions with Illa Penboy where they agreed to let bygones be bygones and move on.
“On Sunday morning we awoke to social media buzz and the story had caught wild fire and gained momentum. We tried to contain it as best as we could, but the ownership had become property of the audience.

Nevertheless, both artists voiced their frustrations. At this point we just want to move forward and for 80 Scripts to continue on the upward trajectory that he is on in his career. As for the artists working together again, I cannot say anything at this point. In this industry, anything is possible, so we will not rule anything out. Nothing is absolute,” Smith said.

Beef

She went on to compare the unfolding beef to that of American rap giants, Jay Z and NAS, saying no one thought the two rappers would work together again following their feud but they did.
“As 80 Scripts’s manager, I remain committed to helping him grow as an artist and as a brand. I am very excited to see the evolution of the entertainment landscape since the appointment of the new SWAMA executive led by Zox Dlamini,” she added.

Meanwhile, Msizi Fakudze, who was part of the organising team for Gcwalisa Mogambo, confirmed that things did not flow as smoothly as they expected.
“It is true that things did not flow as smooth as we expected them to but at the end of the day, 80 Scripts was paid his money. This is money in my opinion he did not deserve,” Fakudze said.
