MISS CULTURAL’S ROLE EXPLAINED

MBABANE – What is the role of Miss Cultural heritage? Miss Cultural Heritage is a pageant which occurs annually. Just like any other pageants, the nation has expectations on their contribution to the people, economic scale of the country, including the standard of living.


During an interview with a few people who wanted to stay anonymous, when asked about the Miss Cultural Heritage Pageant, they raised complaints as to what is the role of the pageant because they only see the crowning.


“We don’t know anything about them, the only time we see them is during their crowning, or maybe we need to be educated on the purpose the pageant.”
It is known that most of the pageants do play a role in improving the economy by curbing poverty.


The Chief Executive Officer of Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture Stanley Dlamini, unpacked the duties of Miss Cultural Heritage and explained that the reigning queen’s duties include giving back to the nation, especially in the cultural sector.
“Miss Cultural Heritage has a lot of duties to execute in the arts and culture circle, the main aim is to promote culture, which is what the pageant is all about,” he said.


Dlamini said the winner of the pageant does a lot of activities in maintaining Swati culture, as she participates in helping in cultural days countrywide, especially in schools and assisting chiefdoms in cultural activities.


Miss Cultural Heritage Neliswa Shongwe, also expressed her disappointment towards the public questioning her role, as she said they are doing a lot in promoting culture in the kingdom.


“It’s not all about the crowning, we engage in a lot of activities apart from all the national events, we promote, teach and empower people about our culture,” she said.
