MBABANE – Age is not limiting the ‘Gorilla man’ from rocking international stages. He might be above 60 years but Mshikishi Mndzebele who is also Eswatini Traditional Music PRO is far from losing his vibe and energy. To confirm this statement, the veteran musician has been invited to perform in Soweto, Johannesburg tomorrow, where he will share the stage with Mahotella Queens and Babsy Mlangeni.

The energetic mbhacanga artist will leave with his band for the festival themed ‘legend one’. The festival will see a number of artists from South Africa deliver performances on the day. These musicians will include Izintombi Zesimanjemanje, Kekana, Izamambo and Mazambane.

Invitation

While confirming the invitation, Mshikishi said he was excited and promised South African traditional music lovers an explosive performance on stage.
“I am over the moon over this invitation; I will make sure they have the time of their lives. I will show them what we are made of and also represent local mbhacanga music to the South African crowd,” he said.
He said the last time he was in Soweto, South Africa was in 1976 when he was still part of Amagugu Esimanjemanje. He added he cannot wait to unleash his hit song ‘Tinkhundla’ to the crowds of people. He added that the song was already receiving airplay on VOC Ermelo, Mkhondvo and Nkomazi FM.

Moreover, Mshikishi advised up and coming local artists to avail themselves for grooming and understanding of the music industry.
“I have gained so much experience while doing music and what I have noted is that some of our young artists lack respect, skills and they do not give themselves time to learn more about music and the industry itself,” he said.

Assistance

He said he has helped a lot of artists but was quick to mention his help did not include financial assistance.
He further advised artist to consult with SWAMA and the Eswatini Traditional Music Association should they want to learn more about the industry and agreements. This after he mentioned that some artists he offered to help would turn against him and demand money yet the agreements did not involve such.

Worth noting is that, the South African female group, Mahotella Queens will be in the country to perform during the FNB Smooth Festival which will take place on November 24 at Riders Ranch in Sidvokodvo.
