21-YEAR-OLD WINS MISS ESWATINI

Ezulwini – New Miss Eswatini, Nosipho Dlamini, covered her face with her hands and broke down after being announced as the eventual winner.

The 21-year-old from Maphalaleni was not the only one who was overcome by emotions as her lively supporters, which dominated the room, ran to the stage in wild excitement after the first ever Miss Eswatini was announced.

The time was 12:50am when Dlamini officially became the new Miss Eswatini.
Dlamini had little time to recover from the exciting news as she was soon surrounded by family and friends, congratulating and giving her solid hugs. Her father, Majawonkhe Dlamini, failed to contain himself as he joined her on stage. While giving her a warm hug, the new Miss Eswatini kept thanking God for her achievement.

Dlamini was one of the popular contestants on the night, from the onset.
Before this memorable moment where the audience danced and screamed their lungs out in excitement, two contestants who were also popular on the night had also been crowned the First and Second Princesses. Nondumiso Dlamini walked away with the First Princess crown while Phiwinhlanhla Mbhamali took home the Second Princess title.

It was evident from the audience’s reactions that the judges had selected the right contestants as the cheers, whistles and screams of excitement grew louder.
Most of the interviewed people before the crowning had included the eventual winners in their own top five as they did predictions. However, others felt Nothando Manyatsi or Nondumiso Dlamini should have taken the top seat.

The queen said she was overwhelmed with joy.
“I cannot describe the feeling because I have never felt like this before. Tears of joy are running down my cheeks, I am so happy,” she said.
She said the other contestants were incredibly amazing.

“They were all confident, very beautiful and smart I must admit. I learned a lot from this night and the event was well organised. I thank everyone who made an effort for it to be a success,” she added.

Proud

Her father, Majawonkhe said he was proud of his daughter whom he described as a church person.
“You have made it Nkhosi, I am so proud of you Dlamini, My baby you made it,” were his words when he climbed on stage to give her a hug.
“She is a unique girl, a well behaved child, who has never given me any troubles. She is a prayerful person, even during the preparations for the finals, she would pray.

She is a devoted Christian who always pushes everyone at home to go to church. She even wakes me up every Sunday to prepare for church. I am happy for her and I know she will fare well as the country’s beauty Queen,” he said.

Pageant SD’s Catrien Potgieter thanked her committee while adding the event was exactly what they expected, nothing but the best.
“This year was tough competition and the calibre of contestants we had was amazing. We want to build up the pageants in Eswatini to where it belongs, and the event is evident that we are going in the right direction,” she said.

The event saw performances from Lebo, dancers and poets entertaining the audience. The contestants also showcased a few dance moves as they paraded in different outfits, with traditional garments and evening wear being the most popular.

Started

The successful event started on a wrong foot as the audience was seemingly frustrated with the late start.
People complained for being made to stand outside for close to an hour as the organising team were making final touch-ups inside the venue.
Most of the people interviewed said this was a big let-down for the entertaining event as it resulted in it ending way after midnight.

“I am not happy I rushed here, thinking the event would start at 8pm but I had to wait outside for an hour and it was not clear why we were made to wait outside,” Lungelo Masina said.

She was not the only one who complained as one of the Fashion Designers, Sihle, said she was not impressed as well.
Moreover, a poet from Manzini also felt the frustration of the audience in the later stages of the event when he was stopped from performing but later pleaded with the audience to perform before the announcement of the eventual winners.
