MALKERNS – What a stunner for an inaugural event! The first Standard Bank Luju Food and Lifestyle Festival held at House on Fire in Malkerns last Saturday, saw close to 4 000 people flocking the venue.

The great numbers of people got to enjoy the ambience and renditions on stage, which were on point.
South African house music boy band Mi Casa and contemporary African soul musician Thandiswa Mazwai’s performances were lit.
The two artists, who were also one of the most anticipated acts for the festival, proved why they are one of the most respected artists in the South African music industry.

Getting up on the stage at just after 9pm, Mazwai set the venue on fire with her tribal chants backed by her powerful voice. She sang her popular song ‘Ndiyahamba’, ‘Ndizalwa Boban’ and a few others before calling Nana Magagula on stage.
The Eswatini legendary soul artist gracefully joined Mazwai after being introduced as her friend and inspiration.
Magagula sang her iconic track ‘Koboyi’, which Mazwai joined and their collaboration, was in sync. They sang harmoniously with no glitches like they had practised for weeks.

Their rendition escalated and the atmosphere turned into an ancestral high as they were deep in their rendition. The crowd loved their rendition as they sang along to the song and gave Magagula a huge standing ovation when she left the stage.
Mazwai continued with her performance and she sang the crowd’s favourite song titled ‘Zabalaza’. Her performance, in total, lasted for close to an hour.
Mi Casa also stole the show. They took to the stage at 10.30pm and their performance was full of energy from the time they got on stage.
They sang their hit songs ‘These streets’, ‘Jika’, ‘Chocolate’ and others which made many dance.
