MBABANE – While most gospel music lovers were disappointed by South Africa gospel star Benjamin Dube’s short performance, it has since transpired that the artist did just what he had been invited for.

While most music lovers thought the bishop was going to perform, it has been gathered that the agreement between Nduduzo Matse’s management and Dube’s was that he attends the event and also blesses Matse’s recording, not to perform. Fans who packed the Metropolitan Church last Saturday were left disappointed after Dube performed only one song. Actually, Dube only performed the song titled ‘Siyabonga’ and thereafter went off stage. Matse invited Dube to join him on stage and as soon as Dube got to the stage, he took time to praise Matse for his good work in the gospel music industry. He described Matse as one artist whom God had anointed. He then advised him to continue sticking to God and believing in Him, adding that in a few years time, he will be one of the best artists in the world.

Soon after his speech, Dube then prayed for Matse. He then asked the band and the backers to join him as they sang. While fans were still enjoying the song, Dube ended it and left the stage. Most gospel music lovers mentioned that they were expecting more from Dube, but unfortunately that never happened. Through a press statement sent by Matse, he made it clear that Dube had not come to perform during the event. “I wish to point out that what the bishop did at the event was in line with our agreement with him and his office when we requested him to be part of the event,” Matse said. He added, “As he mentioned on the night, it was not his moment. He had come to endorse a young man who looks up to him as a legend.”

Matse insisted that the one song was what they had agreed on. “Bishop declared that he will nurture and support me. Gospel music lovers will be seeing a lot of him with me in the near future,” he said. Matse thanked all those who attended, by saying he believed they would understand the reason why Dube never gave a full set on the night.
