KWANYAMAZANE – “Never forget the person who has made you what you are today.” As South African pastor Reckem Mahlangu, the leader of the Five Assemblies of God Ministries, said these words, Sipho ‘Big Fish’ Makhabane could not contain his emotions. He faced down, covered his face with his hands and cried.

This happened at the church premises at Kwanyamazane in Nelspruit.
Early last week, Makhabane got a call from Pastor Mahlangu, inviting him to attend the last service of his church’s Easter convention. The service was held last Sunday.
He insisted that he should attend without fail, not mentioning the reason why he wanted him to be there.  Mahlangu called Makhabane four times still insisting that he should not miss the service.

Honour

After many calls, Makhabane then decided to honour the invitation. Little did he know that the pastor wanted to give him an award in honour for  his contribution towards the growth of the church.
As soon as Makhabane arrived, Mahlangu did not allow him  to even take a seat and instead ushered him towards the stage. He asked him to stand in front of the  over 1 500 congregants.
He then called three other church members; namely John Shabangu who happens to be a businessman, Ronny Sikhondze, who is a police officer and Bongiwe Malope, a nurse, to join Makhabane.

First to be addressed by the pastor was Makhabane. He told Makhabane that as he was looking at how the church had grown, he remembered well Makhabane’s contribution towards the church growth over the years.
Mahlangu said Makhabane played a major role in making sure that the church became what it was today.

Makhabane was described as one of the founding church members who contributed in touching a number of souls, resulting in  people joining the church. This saw the church’s congregants grow from 200 to over 3 000.
“Because of the growth of your ministry, you had to move but still you never forgot where you started. I am humbled by all that you have done for the church,” said Mahlangu.

Wisdom

He added, “I pray that God continues to bless you and to give you more wisdom as you continue with your journey.”
Makhabane got emotional and cried. He was clearly shocked and at a loss for words and simply received the appreciation award from the pastor.
