Famously known as Shekinah, some calling her Sheky or Kinah, the beauty with a voice of an angel has embraced her talent through smooth sailing days and the tough days.
Once under Leserato Events after competing to be in Women in Praise, the beauty from Mbabane has a lot to tell on her music career which is wonderfully blossoming.
Not only is this sassy lass a pretty face and beautiful voice but she is born again, thus her choice to sing gospel music so to use her voice to spread the word of God. The life she has chosen has not stopped Shekinah to live her life to the fullest thus making her GCWALA’s number one choice to advise the youth on how to have clean fun while in Christ.

Who is Shekinah?
People close to me call me Sheky, Kinah or Nkazi and I come from a family of four, my mother, father, my little sister and I and I am a born again Christian. I studied most of my Primary Education at Phakalane Primary school in Botswana then completed at St Andrews Primary school in Malkerns. I later went to Ka Boyce High School. I then went to study Business Administration at IDM where I obtained my Advanced Diploma in Business Management. I then studied at UNISA where I obtained a certificate in Banking and Risk Management. I am currently with the University of Swaziland studying BCom in Accounting and Finance.

When did you discover you were destined for music and how did you act on it?
I would not really know when I developed my love for music exactly as my mother tells stories of how I would sing when I was very young but I took it seriously when I started singing with my friends Sebenele Dlamini and Sphindzile Ndzinisa. We used to sing as a trio in church.

Besides being a musician, what other thoughts did you have about your career choice?
Growing up I have always wanted to be a Doctor but things changed as I am now studying BCom in Accounting and Finance with the University of Swaziland.

How did your career gain momentum?
Wow... It all started with the  auditions that I joined and I never won the competition but I had a lot of people that believed in what I do and who kept on supporting me even after not winning the competition. The church tours I did last year gave my career in music a momentum.

What was your first thought when you heard tracks produced by you in local and international music channels and how did it motivate you?
It was very really humbling the first time I heard a song I sang playing on radio I cried. I cannot explain the feeling. Then hearing people sing along to the songs during shows just melts my heart, this makes me want to work hard on my craft, improve myself and seek more of God as all that I do comes from him.

How have you worked towards improving your   career and performances?
To be honest, understanding who Shekinah is and knowing the type of music that defines me has helped me improve in my career.Once you get that right you become free and you will definitely have fun in doing what you do.

What motivated you to go solo?
My dreams motivated me to go solo. I was just ready to give birth to these dreams and the only person who could make this thing work is I.

Now that you are not under any stable, how has your career changed?
Wow! It changed in such a big way. Now everything is upon myself as I have no manager. It is a challenge that I’m glad to have experienced... there is a lot I learnt and that I am still learning. It brought out a side of myself that I never thought I had. It stretched me a lot and really made me value what I do more.

Are you planning on joining any stable?
Well, I am still thinking about it hey as I am a student. I can’t handle everything on my own. Balancing school and music is no child’s play.

What have been your highlights in 2017?
Highlight of 2017 was towards the end of the year when I did Church Tours around the country. The support from people I got was phenomenal and the sponsorship from different people and companies is great. My current sponsors are Fashion Dash Couture, Transmagnific, Yethu Media Jabula Events, Jaha Sibiya and Eljaytunes.

Please give us a full list of projects of note that you have worked on.
I honestly have not worked in a lot of projects. The only project I have  worked on is Swazi Praise, one group full of amazingly talented artists.

As a gospel musician, what has kept you going?
“When God is in it, I have nothing to worry about.” I always tell this to myself whenever I run out of ideas. At times, one runs out of options and just doesn’t know what to do or where you will get certain things. God takes care of his own and he never calls his people to let them suffer. So my faith in God keeps me going. The support I get from people, friends, family, fans. If I’d open up my Facebook inbox you would see what I’m talking about. People write motivational messages to me and that also keeps me going. My family supports what I do. Whenever I tell them I have to go minister somewhere the first question asked is “ what do you need”.... My church, Jesus Calls Worship Centre is indeed it’s a place I can call home. Apostle R. Kasoro has been a father to me... I tell him what I plan on doing next, when he gives me the green light he supports me all the way... the congregation... some of them come to wherever I am ministering...it’s so humbling. My sponsors, Fashion Dash Couture, Yethu Media, Jabula Events, Transmagnific,Jaha Sibiya and Eljaytunes. They all out for me and every project I tell them I am planning doing the put in their all as if it’s their own project. All this keeps me going.

What projects should we look out for this year?
I plan for 2018 to be bit relaxed for me. Will be doing church tours in some parts of South Africa and God willing we will have Shekinah’s first recording.

Motivational words to aspiring artists...
Follow you dreams...if you love it, go for it.... work hard towards it....they say “Work like you haven’t prayed and pray like you don’t work at all.” Always try to improve yourself, make yourself better. Don’t be discouraged. Make sure you have fun.

How do you spice up your life as a youth that is born again?
I do what I love. I travel and thanks to Transmagnific that made my life so much easier now as I travel for free. I hang out with my friends as well. Honestly I just do things that excite me at that time.

For the young that wish to change their lives, motivate them how it is important and why it works for you?
I always say “it’s good to dream but don’t forget to wake up and work towards the dream.” This means we all want to achieve certain things in life...but let’s not just have this goals locked in our heads but let’s act towards them as the ‘Road to Success’ is not  easy it comes with challenges, it requires you to move out of your comfort zone and take risks. One should always surround themselves with people that support their dreams. Learn from people who have gone through the Road you are taking. Don’t be ashamed of asking if you need clarity in certain places. Know what you want as a lot of people will come with numerous opinion and advice...Be wise.

A bit about Shekinah...
Well I am a very shy person. I love travelling like a lot. If my life was all about visiting new places I would be the happiest being on the planet. I love my me time.
