MBABANE – Is it possible that the charismatic Gawuzela’s Crossover show made a sum of E1 million in one night?

The question most people have been asking themselves after the success of the Umlilo/Swazi Mobile Crossover Gospel Music Festival, is just how much money was made.  The show held on December 31 last year at the Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre, saw just over 20 000 gospel music lovers attending, and with each paying E50 at the gate. Total this up and it gives you E1 million.

The attendance figures were confirmed at just over 20 000 , judging by the sold tickets. This year the show was sponsored by Swazi Mobile, hence the new name ‘Umlilo/Swazi Mobile Crossover’. Other partners included Amandla Financial services. The show featured local and South African gospel music artists which included the queen of South African Gospel music, Rebecca Malope and Tshwane Gospel Mass Choir.

The crossover is an annual event hosted by Umlilo Music, a company under the directorship of Mduduzi Simelane of Mduduzi Nezinceku Zamagagwugawu. Some of the tickets to the show were sold earlier as the organisers had arrangements of pre-sale tickets.
Mduduzi ‘Gawuzela’ Simelane made it clear that the event was not about money but it was about bringing the nation together to pray as the year begins.

He said the event comes with expenses, some of which cannot be disclosed, which need a lot of money.
“It should be clear that the reason why I do not want to talk about money is simply because this event is not about money,” he said.
He added, “Every year, the nation has to come together and pray. For me, it is all about that and nothing more,”
